Answer:
It is known that a friendship which is subordinated to truth and justice, lives forever. It is like a swan which separates water from milk, milk from water and truth from falsehood. Algu and Jumman were close friends. When Algu was appointed as the head of the Panchayat, he did not take Jumman’s favour and pronounced a good decision. Even Jumman did not take it wrong when he pronounced the judgement of Algu and Sahu ‘s dispute.
ऐसा माना जाता है कि मित्रता जो सत्यता और न्याय के अधीनस्थ होती है, हमेशा अस्तित्व में रहती है। यह एक हंस के समान होती है जो दूध में से पानी, पानी में से दूध और झूठ से सत्यता, को अलग करती है। अलगू और जुम्मन घनिष्ठ मित्र थे। जब अलगू को पंचायत के मुखिया के रूप में चुना गया, उसने जुम्मन का पक्ष नहीं लिया और एक सही फैसला सुनाया। यहाँ तक कि जुम्मन ने भी इसे गलत नहीं मानी जब उसने अलगू और साहू के विवाद का फैसला सुनाया।

Answer:
Algu said, “Victory to the Panchayat! This is justice” because of Jumman’s decision. When the dispute of Algu and Sahu was taken to the Panchayat, Jumman was appointed as the head of it. Then Algu thought that he would take a revenge on him, for he had already announced a decision against Jumman. But when Jumman took his seat in the Cabinet, he was full of good sense and responsibility. He announced a good verdict that Sahu should pay the full price of the bullock.

Answer:
Jumman Sheikh and Algu Chaudhari were fast friends. Their friendship began when they were still boys. They had an unshakeable faith in each other’s love and loyalty. When Jumman was going on a pilgrimage, he entrusted his household to the care of Algu. The later did the same. But they differed from each other in their social customs and in their religious beliefs. Though they neither ate nor worshipped together, still they shared in the same likes and this, indeed, is friendship’s foundation.
जुम्मन शेख और अलगू चौधरी घनिष्ठ मित्र थे। उनकी मित्रता उस समय शुरू हुई जब वे छोटे थे। वे एक-दूसरे के प्रेम तथा निष्ठा में एक अविचलनीय विश्वास रखते थे। जब जुम्मन एक तीर्थयात्रा पर जा रहा होता था, वह अपने घरेलू दायित्व अलगू को सौंप जाता था। इसी प्रकार दूसरा करता था। लेकिन वे अपनी सामाजिक प्रथाओं और अपने धार्मिक विश्वासों में एक-दूसरे से भिन्न थे। यद्यपि वे एक-साथ न तो खाते थे और न ही पूजापाठ करते थे, फिर भी उनकी पसंद समान थी और वास्तव में यही मित्रता की असली बुनियाद होती है।

The aged aunt, with her back bent like a bow, hobbled up and down the village, supporting herself on a staff. There was not a single good man in the village before whom she did not weep out her tale of woe. Some sent her away with an ambiguous assurance of help while others were shocked at the high-handedness of Jumman. A few advised her to be reconciled to her lot. At last she went to Algu Choudhari and asked him to support her.

It was the day for the Panchayat session. Sheikh Jumman had a big carpet spread under a tree and had arranged for a good supply of betel-nuts, cardamoms and tobacco. The village people began to pour in whenever anyone came, Jumman and Algu would rise and welcome him. The sun had set. The barbers were busy feeding the hubblebubbles with small bits of live coal and tobacco. The children were scampering about.
यह पंचायत की बैठक का दिन था। शेख जुम्मन के पास एक पेड़ के नीचे फैलाई हुई बड़ी चटाई थी और सुपारी, इलायची तथा तंबाकू की आपूर्ति करने की अच्छी व्यवस्था थी। गाँव के लोग आने लगे। जब कभी कोई आता, जुम्मन और अलगू खड़े होते तथा उसका स्वागत करते थे। सूर्य अस्त हो चुका था। नाई जलते हुए कोयलों के छोटे-छोटे टुकड़ों तथा तम्बाकू से हुक्के भरने में व्यस्त थे। बच्चे आस-पास हड़बड़ाकर दौड़ रहे थे।

Answer:
Sahu began to tax the poor bullock to the limit. Even he did not feed it properly. One afternoon he stowed in the cart double the usual load. The poor creature, already exhausted by three previous trips, could hardly lift its feet. He whipped it hard to make it go. It started and covered a short distance but again stopped. Its master whipped it again. It fell down and died.

In the fields the crows were in council. They were discussing whether they had a right to the peas growing in the fields. It appeared that until this matter was decided, they were bent upon expressing their disapproval of the watchman’s vigilance by cowing vociferously. The parrots on the trees were debating whether men had any right to call them faithless when, amongst men, too, one’s own friends do not refrain at times deceiving one another.

“Panchparmeshwar is an apt title for this story. It shows how disputes in villages can be settled amicably and how the panchayat can play a vital role in restoring peace and harmony. It gives the message that an ideal judge is one who is not biased and in him dwells the voice of God. Algu is the panchayat chief and when it comes to do the justice, he does not spare even his best friend Jumman. The friends become foes but in due course when Jumman becomes sarpanch and sits on the judgment seat, he realizes that Algu was right.
