The title of the story ‘Going Places’ is quite apt. It is because in the story Barton takes his readers to different places through his main young female character Sophie. First of all, Sophie takes the readers in search of work. She fancies becoming a boutique owner or manager or an actress-cum-boutique owner or a designer. This upsets Jansie, Sophie’s close friend. In the second phase, she fancies unknown things, unseen places, and unknown people or strangers. She imagines a vast world and sees herself riding there behind her brother, Geoff. He wore new shining black leathers and she (Sophie) wore a yellow dress with a kind of cape that flew out behind. In the final phase, she takes us to Royce’s window, and then to the place where she goes to meet Danny Casey.
