(1) The Lyric (गीत):
The lyric is a song to be sung with a lyre. A lyric is a short poem reflecting some personal emotions like love and hatred. It can also express joy, fear, pity, anger, devotion, patriotism etc.
Lyric (गीत) को lyre (वीणा) के साथ गाया जाता है। यह एक छोटा गीत होता है जिसमें कुछ व्यक्तिगत भावनाओं जैसे-प्रेम व घृणा आदि को व्यक्त किया जाता है। इसके माध्यम से हर्ष शोक, दया, क्रोध, भक्ति व देशभक्ति संबंधी भावनाओं को व्यक्त किया जाता है।
(2) The ode (नृत्य गीत):
The Ode is an elaborated lyrical poem. It is generally addressed to somebody or something and intended to be sung in chorus. It is sung with musical instruments and is supplemented by a dance.
नृत्य गीत (ode) एक विस्तृत lyrical कविता होती है। इसमें सामान्यतः किसी व्यक्ति या वस्तु को सम्बोधित किया जाता है और इसे एक साथ मिलजुलकर कोरस में गाया जाता है। इसे संगीत के वाद्य यंत्रों के साथ गाते हैं तथा इसमें नृत्य का समावेश भी होता है।
(3) The Ballad (ग्राम्य गीत)
The term ‘ballad’ comes from the Latin word ‘ballet’ which means ‘to dance’. Originally the ballad is a song accompanying a dance. It is sung by a strolling singer or a band of singers with the musical instruments. Therefore the ballad is a kind of folk literature meant for the entertainment of villagers. It is a short recitation of an old chivalrous deed of a hero.
शब्द ‘Ballad’ (ग्राम्यगीत/आल्हा) लैटिन भाषा के ‘Ballet’ शब्द से आया है जिसका अर्थ होता है नाचना। मूलतः Ballad में नाच के साथ ही गाना होता है। इसे घूमने-फिरने वाले गायक या गायकों के समूह द्वारा गाया जाता है। इसमें भी वाद्य-यंत्रों की आवश्यकता पड़ती है और खासतौर पर ग्रामीण लोगों के मनोरंजन के लिए इसका उपयोग होता है। इसमें किसी नायक के बहादुरी के कामों का गुणगान होता है।
(4) The Epic (महाकाव्य)
The term ‘epic’ comes from the Greek word ‘epos’. An epic is a long narrative poem with a heroic theme. It has an introduction, a turning point and an epilogue. There are a number of characters in the epic. Some of them are portrayed in great detail. It makes the use of supernatural elements, gods and goddesses.
शब्द ‘epic’ (महाकाव्य) ग्रीक भाषा के ‘Epos’ शब्द से बना है। यह वीरतापूर्ण कथानक की किसी बड़ी कहानी को व्यक्त करने वाली विस्तृत कविता होती है। इसमें प्रस्तावना कहानी के बीच आने वाले मोड़ और उपसंहार अर्थात् अंत होता है। महाकाव्य में कई चरित्र (पात्र) होते हैं। इसमें अलौकिक शक्तियों देवी, देवताओं का समावेश भी होता है।
