Solution:
(i) l and m are intersecting lines.
(ii) P, and Q are parallel lines.
(iii) x is a transversal andy, z are intersecting lines.

Question 2
Identify the following (RBSESolutions.com) from the given figure:
(i) Interior alternate angles
(ii) Exterior alternate angles
(iii) Corresponding angles
(iv) Interior angles on same side of transversal.

Solution:
(i) ∠1 and ∠7, ∠4 and ∠6 are pair of alternate angles.
(ii) ∠2 and ∠8, ∠3 and ∠5 are pair of (RBSESolutions.com) alternate angles.
(iii) ∠1 and ∠5, ∠2 and ∠6, ∠4 and ∠8, ∠3 and ∠7 are pair of corresponding angles.
(iv) ∠1 and ∠6, ∠4 and ∠7 are pair of interior angles on same side of transversal.

Question 3
If l ॥ m then find the value of x.


Solution:
(ii) In figure, l ॥ m
∠x = 60° (Corresponding angles)
(ii) In figure, l ॥ m
∴ ∠x = 50° (Alternate angle)

∴ x+ 110° = 180°
∴ x = 180°- 110° = 70°
(iv) In figure, l ॥ m ∠x = 115° (External alternate angle)

Which of the following are the pairs of parallel lines :

Solution:

Question 5
If p ॥ q and q ॥ r then find the value of x and y.

Solution:
In figure (i) p ॥ q
∴ ∠x = 95°
and ∠x + 30° + ∠y= 180° (Linear pair)
95°+ 30 ° + ∠y = 180°
125° + ∠y = 180°
∠y = 180°- 125° = 55°
In figure (ii) p ॥ q and q ॥ r
∴ ∠y = 65° (Alternate angles)
and ∠x + ∠y = 180° (Linear pair)
∠x + 65° = 180°
∠x = 180° -65°= 115°

Question 6
Draw a line PQ and then (RBSESolutions.com) draw line RS parallel to it.
Solution:
Let PQ is a line. Method to draw a parallel line as follows :

In figure (i) Put the edge of set square (RBSESolutions.com) by setting its right angle edge with PQ and draw a perpendicular line OP.
In figure (ii) set the set square after turning at P and draw line RS (let 3 cm) distance parallel to line PQ.

Question 7
Draw a line AB and a perpendicular from any point on it Take a point Con this perpendicular line at 5 cm from AB. Draw a line parallel to AB passing through point C.
Solution:
A line AB is given and a point C is given out side of line AB. Draw (RBSESolutions.com) a parallel line of AB passing through point C.

As per figure draw CD parallel to AB with the help of set square .
