My Good Right Hand Theme Of The Poem
‘My Good Right Hand’ of C. Mackay is quite an inspiring poem. It highlights the importance of hard work and self-help in overcoming poverty and ill-fortune. Self-help is the best help. False and selfish friends and relatives desert us in the hour of need. People of the world are good at preaching but refuse to help or lend their money. Having confidence in self-help and God, we can tide over all difficulties and misfortunes. The ‘Good Right Hand’ is a symbol of self-help and self-sufficiency. My Good Right Hand Summary Of The Poem
Fell into Grief, Began to Complain: The poet felt that his bad days has started and luck had deserted him. His misfortune and poverty have made him fall into grief. He began to complain and curse his fate. He looked for friends for help. None came forward to help him. It was a futile search. His companions were indifferent. They shied away from in the hour of need. His acquaintance and relatives were cold and indifferent towards him. They only gave him good counsel and advice. But that was all that they could do. They were afraid of lending their money to help him.
Trust in self-help: There came a definite change in his attitude. He ignored his selfish friends and acquaintances. He realised that self-help is the best help. He must depend on his good right hand. Good right-hand stands for self-help and hard work. Only hard work could lift him over his misfortunes. He realised that reposing trust in selfish friends and relatives or the people around him served no purpose. Trusting in them means building a castle on the sand. Then came the self-awakening. He decided to trust in God and depend on his good right hand. Only they could help him in his hour of need.
Courage revived: The poet gained his courage and self-confidence back again. He realised that only courage and self-help could help him to tide over difficulties and misfortunes. कविता का सारांश
गम में डूबना; भाग्य से शिकायत: कवि ने अनुभव किया कि उसके बुरे दिन शुरू हो चुके हैं। भाग्य और सितारों ने उसका साथ छोड़ दिया है। उसकी बदकिस्मती और गरीबी ने उसे गम में डुबो दिया। वह अपने भाग्य से शिकायत करने और उसे कोसने लगा। उसने सहायता के लिए अपने दोस्तों की तरफ देखा। कोई भी मदद करने के लिए आगे नहीं बढ़ा। यह एक व्यर्थ की खोज थी। उसके साथी उदासीन हो गए। जरूरत के समय उन्होंने मुँह फेर लिया। उसके जानकार और संबंधी उसके प्रति संवेदनहीन और उदासीन हो गए। उन्होंने उसे सिर्फ अच्छी सलाह और नसीहत ही दी। लेकिन उन्होंने सिर्फ यही कुछ किया। वे उसकी मदद हेतु पैसा उधार देने से डरते रहे।
स्वयं-सहायता में विश्वासः उसके दृष्टिकोण में एक निश्चित बदलाव आया। उसने अपने स्वार्थी मित्रों और रिश्तेदारों से किनारा कर लिया। उसे अनुभव हुआ कि अपनी सहायता अपने आप करना ही सर्वश्रेष्ठ सहायता है। उसे अपने कारगर दायें हाथ पर निर्भर रहना चाहिए। कारगर (अच्छा) दायाँ हाथ स्वयं सहायता और परिश्रम का प्रतीक है। केवल कठिन मेहनत ही उसे उसके दुर्भाग्य से छुटकारा दिला सकती थी। उसने अनुभव किया कि स्वार्थी मित्रों और रिश्तेदारों या अपने आसपास के लोगों में विश्वास व्यक्त करने से कुछ भी हासिल नहीं होता। उनमें विश्वास व्यक्त करना रेत के ऊपर महल खड़ा करना है। फिर आत्म-चेतना का पदार्पण हुआ। उसने ईश्वर में भरोसा रखने और अपने कारगर और अच्छे दायें हाथ पर निर्भर रहने का फैसला किया। सिर्फ वे ही जरूरत के समय उसकी सहायता कर सकते थे।
