परीक्षा में Words in Situation सम्बन्धी प्रश्न भी पूछे जाते हैं। इन प्रश्नों में रिक्त स्थानों में उपयुक्त शब्द भरने को कहा जाता है। प्रश्नों की संरचना प्रायः निम्न प्रकार होती है

इस प्रकार के प्रश्नों को हल करने के लिए छात्रों को निम्न बातों का ध्यान रखना चाहिए

1. छात्रों को पाठ्यपुस्तक में आये सभी शब्दों के अर्थ का ज्ञान | होना चाहिए।

2. छात्रों में दिये गये वाक्यों को समझने की योग्यता होनी चाहिए।

3. छात्रों को वाक्य-संरचना का बोध होना चाहिये। वाक्य संरचना के बोध से ही छात्र इस प्रकार के प्रश्नों को हल कर सकते हैं। उदाहरणार्थ
अंग्रेजी में वाक्य की संरचना का क्रम प्रायः निम्न प्रकार होता है-कर्ता (Subject) + क्रिया (Verb) + कर्म (Object)
यदि वाक्य में कर्ता या कर्म के स्थान को रिक्त दिया गया है, तो समझ लेना चाहिये कि रिक्त स्थान में कोई संज्ञा शब्द (Noun) आयेगा।।
इसी प्रकार यदि कर्ता के स्थान को रिक्त दिया गया है तो क्रिया के वचन को देखकर यह निश्चित कर लेना चाहिये कि संज्ञा शब्द एकवचन में आयेगा या बहुवचन में आयेगा। यदि वाक्य में क्रिया का स्थान रिक्त दिया गया है तो कर्ता के वचन के अनुसार एकवचन या बहुवचन क्रिया का चयन करना चाहिये।

4. विशेषण के पश्चात् रिक्त स्थान होने पर रिक्त स्थान में संज्ञा शब्द आयेगा।

5. क्रिया-विशेषण प्रायः क्रिया से पूर्व या क्रिया के पश्चात् आते हैं। अत: क्रिया से पूर्व या क्रिया के पश्चात् रिक्त स्थान होने पर वाक्य के अर्थ के आधार पर रिक्त स्थान भरने में सावधानी रखनी चाहिये। साथ ही यह भी ध्यान रखना चाहिये कि क्रिया के पश्चात् रिक्त स्थान में कर्म भी आ सकता है।

6. क्रियाएँ दो प्रकार की होती हैं-सकर्मक तथा अकर्मक। सकर्मक क्रियाओं के पश्चात् रिक्त स्थान होने पर रिक्त स्थान में कर्म आयेगा। जबकि अकर्मक क्रियाओं के पश्चात् रिक्त स्थान होने पर प्रायः क्रिया विशेषण ही आयेगा। उदाहरणार्थ

Mohan is sleeping……………….(sleep अकर्मक क्रिया है अतः यहाँ क्रिया विशेषण आयेगा ।) जैसे-
Mohan is sleeping well. Ram is reading……………..(read सकर्मक क्रिया है अतः यहाँ कर्म आयेगा )
जैसे-Ram is reading a book.
कुछ क्रियाएँ द्विकर्मक होती है अर्थात् उनके पश्चात् दो कर्म होते हैं। जैसे
Meera gave Mohan a book.

अतः छात्रों को द्विकर्मक क्रियाओं के विषय में भी ज्ञान होना चाहिये।

7. यदि वाक्य के अन्त में प्रश्न वाचक चिह्न है तथा वाक्य के प्रारम्भ में रिक्त स्थान दिया गया है तो रिक्त स्थान में wh-word या HelpingVerb ही आयेगा।
