Risks Theme Of The Poem
‘Risks’ is really a motivational and inspiring poem. Human life is full of risks, dangers and adventures. We shouldn’t fear or avoid taking necessary risks. Risks provide fresh opportunities. We should have the courage to take risks. Janet Rand’s message is very clear. A person who risks nothing does nothing. He doesn’t grow and doesn’t learn anything. We can’t learn, feel, change, grow, love and live without taking necessary risks. A false sense of certainty and security only binds us. It prevents our growth. Only a person who takes risks can have true freedom and independence. Hence, no risks no gain.
Risks Summary Of The Poem
Every Act of Life Involves Risks: Every human activity involves risks. Life can’t be risk-free. Neither we should stop laughing risking ourselves to be called fools nor can we stop shedding tears simply because people will call us sentimental. Reaching out for others risks involvement. Opening out our heart doesn’t necessarily means getting ourselves exposed. We need not fear placing our ideas and dreams before a crowd. We should do so even at the risk of being called as inexperienced persons.
Love, Hope and Living Involve Risks: Life is a risky proposition. Love does involve risk. It is quite possible that the person whom we love may not love us in return. Living itself is full of risks. Death can come uninvited. All our hopes can end in smoke. They may bring nothing but despair. All our efforts may not succeed. We can’t rule out failures. But inspite of all these dangers and failures, we can’t avoid taking risks in life. Life can’t be risk-free. Risks are opportunities and we must grab them.
Risks Must Be Taken: Neither we should fear risks nor should we avoid them. Risks must be taken because the greatest danger in life is to risk nothing. Risks add to our experience. They may make us sadder but wiser. A person who risks nothing, does nothing. He can’t ever achieve grandeur and greatness. He remains a dwarf, mentally and physically. He achieves nothing worthwhile. His growth is hampered. Hence, nothing worthwhile or great is possible without taking risks in life.
Sufferings and Sorrows Indispensable: Sufferings and sorrows are integral parts of life. We can’t avoid them. We can only take them in our stride. People try to avoid sufferings and sorrows. Their attempt is not productive. They may avoid sufferings, sorrows and risks at a very high cost. No risk, no gain. We can’t learn, feel, change, grow, love and live successfully without taking necessary risks.
Certainty and Security are Bondages: We may be deceived by a false sense of security and certainty. Certainty and security may not bring true happiness and comforts in life. They only bind us and block our growth mentally as well as physically. They make us slaves. They only limit and forfeit our true freedom and sense of independence. Only a person who takes risks in life can be called a free person in the real sense.

कविता का सारांश
जीवन के हर कार्य में जोखिम आवेष्टित है : मनुष्य जीवन की हर गतिविधि में जोखिम शामिल है। जीवन जोखिम-मुक्त नहीं हो सकता। हमें जोखिम और खतरे लेने से डरना नहीं चाहिए। हम यह सोचकर तो हँसना बंद नहीं कर सकते कि हमें दूसरों के द्वारा मूर्ख कहलाने का जोखिम रहता है। न ही हम ये सोच के आँसू बहाना छोड़ सकते हैं कि लोग हमें भावुक कहेंगे। दूसरों की मदद के लिए आगे बढ़ने में जोखिम शामिल है। वास्तव में, दूसरों के आगे अपने दिल को खोल देने का अर्थ स्वयं को जोखिम में डालना नहीं है। हमें अपने विचारों और स्वप्नों को लोगों की भीड़ के सामने प्रस्तुत करने
से डरना नहीं चाहिए। हमें स्वयं को अनुभवहीन कहलावाने का जोखिम उठाकर भी इसे करना चाहिए।
प्यार, आशा और जीवन में जोखिम शामिल है: जीवन एक जोखिम भरा मामला है। प्यार में भी जोखिम शामिल है। यह काफी संभव है कि जिस व्यक्ति से हम प्यार करते हैं, वह बदले में हमसे प्यार न करे। जीवन स्वयं जोखिमों से भरा है। मौत बिना बुलाये आ सकती है। हमारी सारी आशाएँ धूमिल हो सकती हैं। वे शायद निराशा के अतिरिक्त कुछ भी नहीं दे सकती। शायद हमारे सारे प्रयत्न सफल न हों। असफलताओं से हम इनकार नहीं कर सकते, लेकिन इन सभी खतरों और असफलताओं के बावजूद, हम जीवन में जोखिम उठाना बंद नहीं कर सकते। जीवन जोखिमों से मुक्त नहीं हो सकता। जोखिम अवसर प्रदान करते है और हमें उन्हें झपट लेना चाहिए।

कष्ट और तकलीफ टाले नहीं जा सकते: कष्ट और तकलीफ जीवन के अभिन्न भाग हैं। हम उनसे बच नहीं सकते। हमें केवल उन्हें अपना भाग्य मान स्वीकार करना चाहिए। लोग कष्टों और तकलीफों से बचने का प्रयत्न करते हैं। उनका प्रयत्न उत्पादक नहीं है। वे शायद काफी कीमत चुकाकर ही कष्ट, तकलीफ और जोखिम से बच सकते हैं। कोई जोखिम नहीं तो कोई लाभ भी नहीं। हम बिना आवश्यक जोखिम उठाये शिक्षा, अनुभव, परिवर्तन, विकास, प्रेम और जीवन का आनंद सफलतापूर्वक प्राप्त नहीं कर सकते। निश्चितता और सुरक्षा बंधन हैं: हम सुरक्षा और निश्चितता की हृदय भावनाओं से ठगे जा सकते हैं।
निश्चितता और सुरक्षा शायद जीव में सच्ची खुशी और सुविधाएँ प्रदान न कर पाएँ। वे केवल हमें बाँध देती हैं और हमारे शारीरिक और मानसिक विकास को अवरोधित करती हैं। वे हमें दास बनाती हैं। वे हमारी सच्ची स्वतंत्रता और आजादी की भावना को सीमित कर उन्हें नष्ट करती हैं। केवल वही व्यक्ति जो जीवन में जोखिम उठाता है, सच्चे अर्थों में एक स्वतंत्र व्यक्ति कहा जा सकता है।

To weep is to risk appearing sentimental.
To reach out for another is to risk involvement.
To expose feelings is to risk exposing your true self.
हँसने का अर्थ है कि (दूसरों के सामने) स्वयं को मूर्ख जैसे प्रतीत होने का जोखिम उठाना।
(अगर) आप रोते हैं तो आप (दूसरों के सामने) अवांछित रूप से भावुक प्रतीत होने का जोखिम उठाते हैं।
दूसरे की मदद के लिये आगे बढ़ने का अर्थ होगा उनमें गहरी रुचि लेने के खतरे को उठाना।
अगर (हम) अपनी भावनाओं को खुले रूप से प्रदर्शित करते हैं तो इसका अर्थ है अपने अंत:स्थल को दूसरों के सामने उघाड़ देने का खतरा मोल लेना।
