The Imp and The Peasant’s Bread Theme Of The Lesson
The story is based on a folk tale, about how an imp tempts a peasant and by corrupting him brings out the beast in him. It is a story with deep meaning. This story narrates that a man is satisfied when he is poor but when he has excess money he finds ways of getting pleasure out of it. It also reveals the true nature of man. The story not only amuses us, but, is also a cautionary tale against the dangers of alcohol.
The Imp and The Peasant’s Bread Short Summary
Peasant put the bread in his coat: One morning a peasant went off early to plough his field. He kept the bread in his coat and hid it under a bush.
Imp stole the bread: When the peasant was ploughing, his bread is stolen by the imp. Peasant feels very sorry to lose his breakfast. Being good at heart he feels that someone must be needing it more than him and fulfils his hunger by drinking water.
Imp upset over the peasant’s decision: Imp gets upset as he had not made the peasant swear over his stolen bread.
Devil annoyed with Imp: Devil got angry and told imp that it was his fault that he does not understand his business. He said if the peasants and their wives do all good things then they shall be lost. Imp felt frightened and hurried back to earth to make up for his mistake.
Advice given by Imp to the peasant: Imp disguised himself into a working man and went to work with the peasant. He advised the peasant to sow corn in a low-lying damp place on the hill and to crush the grain for vodka for the first three years. Peasant followed the same advice and fortunately grew thick, tall and heavy grain corn for two years. He had enough to spare that he did not know what to do with it all.
Party at Peasant’s house: Imp taught peasant to make vodka from the spare corn. He made vodka and drank it himself and also invited his wealthy friends to offer the drink. While offering the drinks to the guests his wife fell and spilled a glassful of vodka on to the floor. The peasant got angry and shouted at her.
Visit of a poor peasant for a drink: A poor peasant who was tired after his day’s work came on his way and requested for the drink. The host behaves very rudely with him and denied to offer him the drink without invitation.
Change of peasants into foxes, wolves and pigs: The rich peasants drank and began to say nice things about each other and made speeches of lies like foxes. On a second glass of drink they became wilder and rougher like fierce wolves. On a last glass of vodka they made strange noises and shouted without reason like pigs.
Imp praised by the Devil: On seeing such insane behaviour of the peasants upon drinking of vodka. Devil got pleased. Devil praised the imp, forgave him for his former mistake and gave him a position of high honour.

यह कहानी एक लोककथा पर आधारित है। इसमें यह दर्शाया गया है कि किस प्रकार से एक शैतान एक किसान को प्रलोभन देकर फँसाता है तथा उसे भ्रष्ट करने के बाद उसे पशुवत बना देता है। इस कहानी का बहुत ही गहरा अर्थ है। यह कहानी यह वर्णित करती है कि जब मनुष्य गरीब होता है तो संतुष्ट होता है, किंतु जब उसके पास अधिक पैसा हो जाता है तो वह अपने आनंद की प्राप्ति के रास्ते तलाशने लगता है। यह कहानी व्यक्ति के वास्तविक चरित्र को प्रकट करती है। यह कहानी न केवल हमारा मनोरंजन करती है। बल्कि शराब से होने वाली हानियों से सावधान भी करती है।
संक्षिप्त सारांश
किसान ने रोटी को अपने कोट में रखा: एक सुबह एक किसान अपने खेत को जोतने पहुँचा। उसने रोटी को अपने कोट में रखा तथा उसे एक झाड़ी में छुपा दिया।
शैतान ने रोटी चुराया : जब किसान खेत जोत रहा था तो उसकी रोटी को एक शैतान ने चुरा लिया। अपने नाश्ते के खो जाने पर किसान को बहुत दुख हुआ। दिल का अच्छा होने के कारण उसने सोचा कि कोई उससे भी जरूरतमंद रहा होगा और उसने पानी पीकर अपनी भूख मिटाई।
शैतान किसान के निर्णय से परेशान हो उठा: शैतान इस बात से परेशान हो उठा कि किसान ने अपनी रोटी खो जाने के बावजूद किसी को बुरा-भला नहीं कहा। राक्षस शैतान से नाराज हो गया: राक्षस शैतान से नाराज हो गया तथा उसने कहा कि यह उसकी गलती है। वह अपने कार्य को समझ नहीं पाया। उसने कहा कि यदि किसान और उसकी पत्नी केवल अच्छे कार्य करें तो हम खत्म हो जाएँगे। शैतान डर गया तथा उसने काम को पूरा करने हेतु पुनः धरती पर गया।
शैतान ने किसान को सलाह दी : शैतान ने एक श्रमिक का वेश बनाया तथा किसान के साथ काम करने लगा। उसने किसान को यह सलाह दिया कि वो पहाड की निचली परत पर मक्का बोए तथा अन्न की पेराई वोदका के लिए प्रथम तीन वर्षों में करे। किसान ने इस सलाह का अनुसरण किया तथा सौभाग्यवश दो वर्षों के लिए मक्का के मोटे, लंबे तथा मस्त दाने उपज गए। उसके पास पर्याप्त अनाज था तथा उसे नहीं पता था कि वह इसका क्या करे।
किसान के घर में पार्टी: शैतान ने किसान को बचे हुए मक्का से वोदका बनाने को कहा। उसने वोदका बनाया। उसने वोदका स्वयं पिया तथा पीने के लिए अपने संपन्न दोस्तों को भी आमंत्रित किया। अतिथियों को शराब परोसती उसकी पत्नी गिर गई तथा फर्श पर ग्लास में भरी वोदका बिखर गई। किसान क्रोधित हो उठा तथा उसने अपनी पत्नी को डॉटा।
एक गरीब किसान को वोदका पीने आना: एक गरीब किसान जो अपने कार्य से थका हुआ था, रास्ते से जा रहा था। उसने वोदका की माँग की, किंतु मेजबान ने बड़ी ही अभद्रता के साथ इन्कार कर दिया क्योंकि वह बिना निमंत्रण के आया था।
किसानों को लोमड़ी, भेड़िया तथा सूअर के रूप में तब्दील होना: संपन्न किसानों ने वोदका पिया तथा एक-दूसरे को बेहतरीन चीजों के बारे में बताने लगे तथा मक्कार लोगों की भाँति एक-दूसरे से झूठ बोलने लगे। दूसरे ग्लास पीने के साथ वे जंगली तथा अभद्र तरीके से पेश आने लगे तथा झूठ बोलने लगे। अंतिम ग्लास वोदका लेते ही वे अनूठी आवाजें निकालने लगे तथा सूअरों की तरह चिल्लाने लगे।
राक्षस ने शैतान की तारीफ की: वोदका का सेवन करते समय किसानों के द्वारा किए जा रहे उन्मादी व्यवहार को देखकर राक्षस बहुत ही प्रसन्न हुआ। उसने शैतान की प्रशंसा की तथा पुरानी गलतियों को माफ करते हुए उसे उच्चतम प्रतिष्ठाप्रद पद प्रदान किया।

- The peasant is a poor and humble man who earned his living by ploughing.
किसान एक गरीब तथा भद्र आदमी था तथा खेती कर अपनी आजीविका चलाता है। - His only piece of bread for the breakfast is stolen by the imp.
उसके रोटी के एक मात्र टुकड़े को शैतान के द्वारा चुरा लिया जाता है। - Peasant feels sorry over the stolen bread but did not swear or call on the name of the Devil.
किसान को दुख होता है किंतु वह किसी को बुरा नहीं कहता तथा शैतान का नाम नहीं देता। - Devil got angry with the imp and asked him to work on his fault or they shall be lost.
राक्षस शैतान पर क्रोधित होता है तथा कहता है कि वह अपनी गलती सुधारे नहीं तो हम सब खत्म हो जाएँगे। - Imp changed himself to a working man and went to work with the peasant. He advised him to grow the corn on damp place and on the hills.

Passage-1: (Page 65)
A poor peasant went off early one morning to plough, taking with him for his breakfast a piece of bread.
He got his plough ready, put his coat around the bread, hid it under a bush and started work.
After a while, when his horse was tired and he was hungry, the peasant stopped ploughing, let the horse loose to feed, and went to get his coat and his breakfast.
He lifted the coat, but the bread was gone!
He looked and looked, turned the coat over and shook it, but the bread was gone.
The peasant could not understand this at all.
That’s strange,’ he thought; “I saw no one, yet someone has been here and has taken the bread!’
It was an imp who had stolen the bread!
एक गरीब किसान प्रात: खेत जोतने के लिए गया। उसने अपने साथ नाश्ते के लिए रोटी का एक टुकड़ा ले रखा था।
वह खेत जोतने को तैयार हुआ। रोटी को कोट में रखा तथा उसे एक झाड़ी के अंदर छुपा दिया।
कुछ देर के बाद, जब उसका घोड़ा थक गया और उसे भूख लगी, तो उसने खेत जोतना बंद कर दिया।
उसने घोड़े को चारे के लिए खुला छोड़ दिया तथा अपने कोट में रखा नाश्ता लाने गया। अपने कोट को उठाया, किंतु वहाँ रोटी नहीं थी।
उसने बार-बार देखा, कोट का उलटा लेकिन रोटी कहीं नहीं थी।
किसान को कुछ भी समझ में नहीं आया।
‘बड़ी अद्भुत बात है। उसने सोचा, ‘मैंने किसी को नहीं देखा फिर भी कोई यहाँ रहा होगा और उसने रोटी ले लिया।’
शैतान ने ही रोटी को चुराया था।
Passage-2: (Page 65)
It was an imp who had stolen the bread while the peasant was ploughing,
and at that moment he was sitting behind the bush,
waiting to hear the peasant swear and call on the name of the Devil.
The peasant was sorry to lose his breakfast, but, “it cannot be helped,’ said he.
‘After all, I shall not die of hunger!
No doubt, whoever took the bread needed it.
May it do him good!
He went to the well, had a drink of water and rested for a while.
Then he caught his horse fastened it to the plough and began ploughing again.
The imp was upset because he had not made the peasant do wrong,
and he went to the Devil, his master, to report what had happened.
He came to the Devil and told how he had taken the peasant’s bread,
and how the peasant, instead of swearing, had said, ‘May it do him good!
वह शैतान ही था जिसने रोटी को चुराया था, जब किसान खेत जोत रहा था।
और उस समय वह पहाड़ियों के पीछे बैठा हुआ था।
वह किसान द्वारा शैतान का नाम लेकर गालियाँ बकने की प्रतीक्षा कर रहा था।
नाश्ता गुम हो जाने के कारण किसान दुखी था।
किंतु इसके कोई सहायता नहीं मिलने वाली,’
उसने कहा। बावजूद इसके मैं भूख से तो मरूंगा नहीं।
इसमें कोई शक नहीं कि जिसने रोटी लिया है, उसे जरूरत रही होगी।
यह उसके लिए अच्छा हो। वह कुएँ के पास गया, पानी पिया तथा थोड़ देर तक आराम किया।
उसके बाद उसने अपने घोड़े को पकड़ा तथा पुनः तेजी से खेत जोतने में लग गया।
शैतान परेशान हो उठा क्योंकि वह किसान को गलत कहने के लिए बाध्य नहीं कर पाया था।
और वह अपने मालिक, राक्षस के पास गया ताकि इसकी सूचना दे सके।
वह राक्षस के पास गया तथा उसे बताया कि उसने किस प्रकार से किसान की रोटी चुराई।
और किस प्रकार से किसान ने गालियाँ बकने के बजाए कहा–यह उसके लिए अच्छा हो।
Passage-3: (Page 65)
The Devil was angry and replied, ‘If the man got the better of you,
it was your own fault – you don’t understand your business!
If the peasants and their wives do that kind of thing, we shall be lost.
The matter can’t be left like that!
Go back at once and make things right.
If in three years you don’t get the better of that peasant,
I’ll have you thrown into holy water!’
The imp was frightened.
He hurried back to earth, thinking how he could make up for his mistake.
He thought and thought, and at last he thought of a good plan.
राक्षस क्रोधित हो उठा। उसने उत्तर दिया, “यदि तुम्हारे कारण व्यक्ति अच्छा बन जाता है,
तो यह तुम्हारी गलती है। तुम अपने काम को समझ नहीं पाए।
यदि किसान तथा उसकी पत्नी इस तरह के काम करते हैं, तो हम खत्म हो जाएँगे।
मामले को इस प्रकार से नहीं छोड़ा जा सकता। एक बार फिर जाओ तथा सभी बातें ठीक कहो।
यदि तीन वर्षों के अंदर किसान को ठीक नहीं करते तो मैं तुम्हें पवित्र जल में फेंक दूंगा।
शैतान डर गया।
वह तुरंत पृथ्वी पर आया तथा अपनी गलती को सुधारने के उपाय ढूँढने लगा।
उसने बहुत सोचा तथा अंत में एक अच्छी योजना बनाई।
Passage-4: (Page 65 & 66)
He changed himself into a working man and went to work with the poor peasant.
The first year he advised the peasant to sow corn in a low-lying damp place.
The peasant took his advice and sowed there.
The year happened to be a very dry one,
and the crops of the other peasants were all burned up by the sun,
but the poor peasant’s corn grew thick and tall and heavy with grain.
Not only had he enough grain to last him for the whole year, but he had also much to spare.
The next year the imp advised the peasant to sow on the hill,
and it happened to be a wet summer.
Other people’s corn was beaten down and the ears did not fill,
but the peasant’s crop, on the hill, was a fine one.
He had more grain to spare than before, so that he did not know what to do with it all.
उसने अपने को एक श्रमिक के रूप में परिवर्तित किया तथा गरीब किसान के साथ काम करने चला गया।
पहले वर्ष में उसने किसान को निचले परत वाले आर्द्र स्थान में मक्के की बुआई करने का सुझाव दिया।

किंतु गरीब किसान को मक्का के दाने बड़े, लंबे तथा काफी संख्या में निकले।
उसके पास न केवल वर्ष भर के लिए पर्याप्त मात्रा में अनाज
था बल्कि काफी मात्रा में बच भी गया।
अगले वर्ष शैतान ने उसे पहाड़ी पर बोआई करने का सुझाव दिया तथा यह वर्ष गीली गरमी वाला रहा।
अन्य लोगों की मक्के की फसल पिट गई, लेकिन किसान की पहाड़ी पर उगाई गई फसल बहुत अच्छी रही।
उसके साथ पहले ही अधिक बचा हुआ अन्न था तथा उसे पता नहीं था कि वह उसका क्या करे।
Passage-5: (Page 66)
Then the imp showed the peasant how he could crush the grain and make vodka from it;
and the peasant made vodka and began to drink it himself and to give it to his friends.
So the imp went to the Devil, his master, and claimed proudly that he had now succeeded where he had failed before.
The Devil said that he would come and see for himself.
He came to the peasant’s house and saw that the peasant had invited his wealthy friends and was giving them drinks.
His wife was offering the drink to the guests and as she took it round she fell against the table and a glassful splashed on to the floor.
तब शैतान ने किसान को यह दिखाया कि किस प्रकार से वह अन्न को पीसकर वोदका का निर्माण किया जा सकता है।
और किसान ने वोदका बनाया तथा स्वयं पिया और अपने मित्रों को भी पिलाया।
शैतान अपने मालिक राक्षस के पास गया। उसने दावा किया कि जहाँ वह पहले असफल हो गया था, अब सफल रहा है।
राक्षस ने कहा कि वह स्वयं जरूर इस बात को देखेगा।
वह किसान के घर गया और देखा कि किसान ने अपने धनी मित्रों को बुलाया है तथा उन्हें वोदका पिला रहा है।
उसकी पत्नी अतिथियों को वोदका परोस रही थी कि अचानक घूमते समय मेज से टकराकर गिर गई तथा ग्लास से भरी वोदका फर्श पर गिर गई।
Passage-6: (Page 66)
The peasant spoke angrily to his wife.
What are you doing, you foolish woman?
Do you think that this good drink is dirty water that you can pour all over the floor, you careless creature?
The imp made a sign to the Devil, his master.
‘See’, he said, ‘that is the man who made no trouble when he lost his only piece of bread.’
The peasant still shouted angrily at his wife, and began to carry the drink to his guests himself.
Just then a poor peasant, who had not been invited, came in, on his way from work.
He greeted everyone, sat down, and saw that they were drinking.
He was tired after his day’s work, and felt that he would like a drop of vodka.
He sat and sat, getting thirstier and thirstier, but the host did not offer him any, but only said,
‘I cannot find drink for every one who comes here.’
किसान ने अपनी पत्नी से क्रोधपूर्वक कहा।
क्या कर रही हो मूर्ख औरत?
क्या तुम ऐसा सोचती हो कि यह शराब गंदा पानी है, जिसे इस तरह से पूरे फर्श पर फैला रही हो, असभ्य जीव?
शैतान ने अपने मालिक राक्षस की तरफ संकेत दिया।
‘देखिए’, उसने कहा, ‘यह वही आदमी है जिसे रोटी का एकमात्र टुकड़ा खो जाने पर भी कोई तकलीफ नहीं थी।
किसान अभी भी क्रोधपूर्वक अपनी पत्नी पर चिल्ला रहा था तथा अपने अतिथियों को स्वयं वोदका ले जाकर देने लगा।
तभी एक गरीब किसान जो कि निमंत्रित नहीं था, काम कर के लौट रहा था।
उसने सभी को अभिवादन किया तथा बैठ गया। उसने देखा कि सारे लोग शराब पी रहे हैं।
वह दिन भर काम करने के कारण काफी थका हुआ था।
उसे ऐसा लगा कि उसे एक बूंद वोदका की आवश्यकता है।
वह बैठा तथा प्यासा रहा, किंतु मेजबान ने उसे शराब नहीं पिलाई।
उसने कहा, ‘मैं यहाँ सभी को शराब नहीं पिला सकता।’
Passage-7: (Page 66)
This pleased the Devil; but the imp laughed happily and said, ‘Wait.
There is more to come yet!
The rich peasants drank and their host drank too and they began to say nice things about each other and made speeches full of lies.
The Devil listened and listened and praised the imp.
‘If the drink makes them so much like foxes that they begin to cheat each other, soon they will all be in our hands.’
Wait for what is coming’, said the imp.
‘Let them drink another glass each’.
Now they are like foxes, shaking their tails and trying to please each other but soon you will see them like fierce wolves.
इससे राक्षस बहुत ही आनंदित हुआ, किंतु शैतान ने खुशी से हँसते हुए कहा, ‘इंतज़ार कीजिए।
अभी आगे और बहुत कुछ होता है।
अमीर किसानों के साथ मेजबान ने भी खूब पिया। और उन्होंने आपस में एक-दूसरे के पास अच्छी-अच्छी बातें की तथा झूठी कहानियाँ गढ़ीं। राक्षस सुनता रहा तथा शैतान की प्रशंसा करता रहा।
यदि शराब इन पर पूरी तरह से चढ़ जाती है तो वे लोमड़ी की तरह एक-दूसरे को ठगेंगे तथा जल्दी ही वे हमारी गिरफ्त में होंगे।
‘आगे का इंतज़ार कीजिए।’ शैतान ने कहा, ‘इन्हें दूसरा ग्लास पीने दीजिए।
अब वे अपनी-अपनी पूँछ हिलाती लोमड़ी की तरह हैं।
और वे एक-दूसरे से प्रशंसा करने की कोशिश कर रहे हैं।
लेकिन जल्दी ही आप इन्हें हिंसक भेड़िए के रूपमें देखेंगे।
Passage-8: (Page 67)
The peasants drank another glass each and their talk became wilder and rougher.
Instead of making soft speeches they began to grow angry and shout at one another.
Soon they began fighting and hit one another on the nose.
The host joined in the fight and he too was well beaten.
The Devil watched all this with great delight.
“This is fine’, he said. But the imp replied, Wait – the best is yet to come.
Wait till they have had a third glass.
Now they are fighting like wolves, but let them drink one more glass and they will be like pigs.’
किसानों के द्वारा अन्य ग्लास पिया गया तथा उनकी बातचीत बेलगाम एवं अभद्र होती गई।
नम्र भाषा से बोलने के बजाय वे क्रोधित हो उठे तथा एक-दूसरे पर चिल्लाने लगे।
तुरंत उनके बीच लड़ाई शुरू हो गई तथा वे एक-दूसरे की नाकों पर मारने लगे।
मेजबान भी लड़ाई में शामिल हो गया तथा वह भी पिट गया।
राक्षस बड़े ही आनंदपूर्वक यह सब देख रहा था। ‘यह बहुत ही अच्छा है,’ उसने कहा। किंतु शैतान ने कहा-अभी इंतजार कीजिए।
और अच्छा होना अभी बाकी है।’
उनके तीसरे ग्लास तक इंतजार कीजिए। अब वे भेड़िए की तरह लड़ रहे हैं।
लेकिन एक ग्लास और लेने के बाद वे सूअर की तरह हो जाएँगे।
Passage-9: (Page 67)
The peasants had their third glass and started to behave just like animals.
They made strange noises and shouted, without knowing why, and did not listen to one another.
Then the guests began to go.
Some went alone, some in twos, and some in threes, all walking unsteadily, first this way and then that way along the street.
The host went out to say good-bye to his guests, but he fell on his nose into some water, covered himself with mud from head to foot and lay there making a noise like a pig.
This pleased the Devil even more.
किसानों ने तीसरे ग्लास के साथ ही जानवरों की तरह व्यवहार करना प्रारंभ कर दिया।
वे अनूठी आवाजें निकालने लगे और बिना प्रयोजन के चिल्लाने लगे।
कोई एक-दूसरे की नहीं सुन रहा था।
अब अतिथि जाने लगे। कुछ अकेले गए, कुछ दो और कुछ तीन लोगों के साथ गए। बाहर निकलते तथा गलियों से गुजरते हुए उनकी चाल डगमगाती हुई सी थी।
मेजबान अपने अतिथियों को विदा करने बाहर गया किंतु थोड़े से पानी में नाक के बल गिरा। तथा सिर से पाँव तक कीचड़ से सन गया।
इसी प्रकार से पड़ा रहा तथा सूअर की आवाज करने लगा।
राक्षस और प्रसन्न हो उठा।
Passage-10: (Page 67)
‘Well’, he said, you have discovered a fine drink and have quite made up for your mistake about the bread.
But now tell me how this drink is made.
I suppose you first put in fox’s blood and that was what made the peasants as clever as foxes?
Then, I suppose, you added the blood of wolves; that is what made them fierce like wolves?
And at the finish you must have put in the blood of pigs to make them behave like pigs.’
‘बहुत अच्छा!’ उसने कहा, ‘तुमने बहुत ही अच्छी शराब तैयार की है। यह शायद तुम्हारी पुरानी भूल रोटी की क्षतिपूर्ति के लिए थी।’

मुझे लगता है कि तुमने सबसे पहले लोमड़ी के रक्त को इसमें मिलाया होगा, तभी किसान लोमड़ी की तरह धूर्त बना।
तब मुझे ऐसा लगता है कि तुमने उसमें भेड़िए का रक्त मिलाया होगा, शायद इसलिए नर भेड़िए की तरह हिंसक हो गया।
और अंत में तुमने उसमें सूअर का रक्त मिलाया, इसलिए वह ऐसा व्यवहार करने लगा।
Passage-11: (Page 67)
‘No’, Said the imp,
‘I did not do it that way.
I only made certain that the peasant had more corn than he needed.
The blood of wild animals is always in men; but as long as men have only as much corn as they need, it is kept under control.
At that time the peasant did not make any trouble over losing his last piece of bread.
But when he had corn to spare, he looked for ways of getting pleasure out of it and I showed him a pleasure-drinking, and when he began to turn God’s good gifts into strong drink for his own pleasure, the blood of the fox, the wolf and the pig in him all showed itself.
If only he goes on drinking, he will always be a wild animal!
The Devil praised the imp, forgave him for his former mistake and gave him a position of high honour.
‘नहीं.’ शैतान ने कहा, ‘मैंने ऐसा नहीं किया।
मैंने केवल यह सुनिश्चित किया कि किसान के पास आवश्यकता से अधिक मक्का हो।
मनुष्य में जानवरों को रक्त हमेशा होता है। लेकिन जब व्यक्ति के पास उसकी आवश्यकतानुसार मक्का रहा तो वह नियंत्रण में रहा। उस समय किसान को अपनी रोटी के अंतिम टुकड़े के खो जाने पर भी कुछ भी परेशानी नहीं हुई।
लेकिन जब उसके पास मक्के की अधिकता हो गई तो वह इनके अलावा अपने जीवन का आनंद ढूंढने लगा। और मैंने वह आनंद उपलब्ध कराया—शराब पीना, और उसने जब ईश्वर द्वारा प्रदत्त अच्छी चीजों को तेज शराब में परिवर्तित अपने आनंद की प्राप्ति हेतु प्रारंभ कर दिया तो उसमें लोमड़ी, भेड़िया तथा सूअर का रक्त स्वयं ही मिल गया।
यदि वह केवल पीता है, तो वह हमेशा जंगली जानवर ही होगा।’
राक्षस ने शैतान की प्रशंसा की। उसकी पिछली भूल को माफ कर दिया तथा उसे उच्च प्रतिष्ठा वाला पद प्रदान किया।
