उक्त प्रश्नों में कोष्ठकों में दिये गये शब्द ‘teach’ से ‘teacher एवं ‘beauty’ से ‘beautiful’ की रचना की गई है। इसी प्रकार आपको परीक्षा में Word Formation करना है।
Word Formation का तात्पर्य है – शब्द के भिन्न-भिन्न रूप बनाना । अंग्रेजी में आठ प्रकार के शब्दों का वाक्य में प्रयोग किया जाता है । इन आठ प्रकार के शब्दों को अंग्रेजी व्याकरण में Parts of Speech कहा जाता है । Noun (संज्ञा), Pronoun (सर्वनाम), Verb (क्रिया), Adjective (विशेषण), Adverb (क्रिया-विशेषण), Preposition (सम्बन्धबोधक अव्यय),Conjunction (संयोजक शब्द) तथा Interjection (विस्मयादिबोधक शब्द) Parts of Speech हैं। इन सभी का उपयोग आवश्यकतानुसार वाक्यरचना में किया जाता है ।
अंग्रेजी में एक ही शब्द (word) को Noun (संज्ञा) अथवा Adjective अथवा Verb अथवा Adverb (क्रिया-विशेषण) आदि विभिन्न रूपों में परिवर्तित किया जाता है ।
इस प्रकार एक Part of Speech को दूसरे Part of Speech में परिवर्तित करके तथा दो भिन्न शब्दों को मिलाकर एक शब्द बनाने को शब्द-रचना (Word Formation) कहते हैं ।
(Word Formation) के विभिन्न नियम
(A) Verb (क्रिया) से Noun (संज्ञा) बनाना
1. क्रिया में -er जोड़कर Noun (संज्ञा) बनाना । जैसे
Play + er = Player
Sell + er = Seller
Teach + er = Teacher
Pray + er = prayer
2. क्रिया में -or लगाकर Noun (संज्ञा) बनाना । जैसे –
Inspect + or = Inspector
Act + or = Actor
Collect + or = Collector
visit + or = visitor .
3. Verb (क्रिया) में -ion लगाकर Noun बनाना । जैसेConnect +ion = Connection
Congratulate + ion = Congratulation
(शब्द के अन्त का ‘e’ हटा दिया जाता है)
Educate + ion = Education
(शब्द के अन्त का ‘e’ हटा दिया जाता है)
4. Verb में -ing लगाकर Noun बनाना । जैसे –
Build + ing = Building
Repair + ing = Repairing
5. Verb में -ment लगाकर Noun बनाना । जैसे – Judge + ment = Judgement (Judgment भी सही है)
Move + ment = Movement
Arrange + ment = Arrangement
6. Verb में परिवर्तन करके Noun बनाना । जैसे –
Lose – Loss
Sell – Sale
Live – Life
Tell – Tale
(B) Adjective (विशेषण) से Noun (संज्ञा) बनाना
1. Adjective में -ness जोड़कर Noun बनाना । जैसे
Weak + ness= Weakness (दुर्बलता)
Kind + ness = Kindness (दयालुता)
Dark + ness = Darkness (अंधकार)
2. Adjective में -dom लगाकर Noun बनाना । जैसे –
Free + dom = Freedom (स्वतन्त्रता)
Wise + dom = Wisdom (बुद्धिमानी)
(शब्द के अन्त का ‘e’ हटा दिया जाता है) ।
3. Adjective में -th लगाकर Noun बनाना । जैसे
Deep + th = Depth (गहराई) (‘ee’ के स्थान पर ‘e’ हो गया)
True + th = Truth (सच्चाई) (अन्त का ‘e’ हटा दिया जाता है)
Heal + th = Health (स्वास्थ्य)
4. Adjective में -ry लगाकर Noun बनाना । जैसे –
Brave + ry = Bravery (वीरता)
Slave + ry. = Slavery (गुलामी)
(C) Noun से Adjective बनाना
1. Noun में -ful जोड़कर Adjective बनाना । जैसे –
Fear + ful = Fearful (भयानक)
Harm + ful = Harmful (हानिकारक)
2. Noun में -ly जोड़कर या शब्द में कुछ परिवर्तन करने के पश्चात् -ly जोड़कर Adjective बनाना जैसे –
Year + ly = Yearly (वार्षिक)
3. Noun में -less जोड़कर Adjective बनाना । जैसे –
Care + less = Careless (लापरवाह)
Use + less = Useless (बेकार)
4. Noun में -en लगाकर Adjective बनाना । जैसे
Wool + en = Woollen (ऊनी) (Adjective में ” हो जाता है)
(Woolen भी सही है) Gold + en = Golden (सुनहरी)
5. शब्द वे अन्त में -ous जोड़ कर Adjective बनाना । जैसे –
Danger + ous = Dangerous (खतरनाक)
Courage + ous = Courageous (साहसी)
6. शब्द के अन्त में -able जोड़कर या परिवर्तन करने के पश्चात् -able जोड़कर Adjective बनाना । जैसे –
Comfort + able = Comfortable (आरामदायक)
Value + able = Valuable (मूल्यवान) (‘e’ समाप्त हो गया)
7. शब्द के अन्त में -ish लगाकर Adjective बनाना । जैसे
Fool + ish = Foolish (मूर्खतापूर्ण)
Child + ish = Childish (बचकाना)।
(D) Adjective से Adverb बनाना
1. शब्द के अन्त में -ly जोड़कर Adverb बनाना । जैसे –
Brave + ly = Bravely Slow + ly = Slowly
2. शब्द के अन्त में y को हटाकर -ily लगाकर Adverb बनाना । जैसे
Lucky + ily= Luckily, Happy+ily = Happily
(E) Noun से Adverb बनाना
1. शब्द के अन्त में -fully लगाकरे Adverb बनाना । जैसे –
Peace + fully= Peacefully
Respect + fully = Respectfully
2. शब्द के अन्त में परिवर्तन करके -ily लगाकर Adverb बनाना । जैसे –
Anger + ily = Angrily (‘e’ लुप्त हो जाता है)
(F) Noun से Noun बनाना
1. Noun के अन्त में -dom जोड़कर । जैसे –
King (राजा) -King+dom = Kingdom (राज्य)
2. Noun के अन्त में -r या -er जोड़कर । जैसे –
Village (गाँव) – Village + r = Villager (ग्रामीण)
Farm (खेत) – Farm + er = Farmer (किसान)
3. Noun के अन्त में -hood जोड़कर । जैसे –
Boy(लड़का) – Boy+hood= Boyhood (लड़कपन)
Child(बच्चा)-Child+hood=Childhood(बचपन)
4. Noun के अन्त में -ian अथवा y के स्थान पर -ian जोड़कर । जैसे-
Music (संगीत) – Music+ian = Musician (संगीतकार)
Library (पुस्तकालय) – Library + ian = Librarian (पुस्तकालयाध्यक्ष)(‘yलुप्त हो जाता है)
5. Noun के अन्त में -ry जोड़कर । जैसे –
Slave (गुलाम) – Slave + ry = Slavery (गुलामी)
Poet (कवि) – Poet + ry = Poetry (कविता)
6. Noun के अन्त में -ship जोड़कर । जैसे –
Friend (मित्र) – Friend + ship = Friendship (मित्रता)
