A Man’s True Son Theme Of The Lesson
This is a touching story by H. M. Lambert. A certain gentleman shows kindness to a thief and helps him with a bag of coins. The thief gives up the evil ways of life and becomes a good man. He also works hard and earns a great deal of money in times to come. His richness has never any hindrance in the ways of kindness which he shows towards the others. Kindness takes rebirth in him. If he was punished by the gentleman on the day, his life would have been spoiled but kindness shown by the gentleman reformed him. He has proved himself to be the true son.
A Man’s True Son Short Summary
Birthday Party: A certain gentleman celebrated his birthday by giving a great feast. His relatives came from distant lands. They had come to greet him and brought gifts for the gentleman.
The Uninvited Guest: The thief was the uninvited guest who was hiding in the roof. He was fearful of punishment and he wished ill for the gentleman. The gentleman was not rude to the thief, instead, he served the thief himself with a humble meal and gave him gifts and coins.
The Thief’s Response: Kindness shown by the gentleman influenced the thief. He changed his evil ways of life. He worked hard and earned his livelihood by honest means. During this period the thief became a rich man.
The Kind Thief: Although the thief was now a renowned rich man, he was never rude to others. He showed the same kindness which he had received from the gentleman earlier.
Another Birthday: The old gentleman celebrated another birthday after several years. Again the guests from the far off lands came and brought him beautiful gifts. The thief also came as a stranger with a small box which contained a precious pearl.
The Inquisitive Gentleman: The gentleman was inquisitive to know the name of the stranger who had brought the precious gift. The thief reminded the gentleman his kind act. At last the gentleman was able to recognize the thief.
The Happy Gentleman: The gentleman was happy with the kind act of the thief. He was pleased to know that the thief had also shown the same kindness to the other people. Although the gentleman had thousands of sons and grandsons, the stranger was very dear to him for his kindness.
A True Son: The thief proved himself to be a true son because he had spread the message of kindness among the people. As a means of passing kindness, the thief turned to be the true son of the gentleman.

एच.एम. लिम्बार्ट द्वारा लिखी गई यह एक हृदय को छूने वाली कहानी है। एक भद्र व्यक्ति ने एक चोर के प्रति दयालुता का प्रदर्शन किया और उसकी सहायता सिक्के से भड़े एक थैले से किया। उस चोर ने अपने जीवन को एक सही दिशा दिया और एक अच्छा आदमी बन गया। उसने भी कठोर मिहनत किया और समय के साथ धन, मान और जमीन आदि सब हासिल किया। उसकी संपन्नता उसके दयालुता के मार्ग में कभी वाधक नहीं बनी जो उसने अन्य जरूरतमंदों के प्रति दिखाया। यदि उस दिन उस भले मानुष ने उसे दंडित किया होता तो उसका जीवन उसी दिन बर्बाद हो जाता, लेकिन उस भले मानव ने जो दयालुता उसके साथ दिखाया उसने उसका जीवन ही बदल दिया। उसने यह साबित कर दिया कि वह एक सच्चा बेटा है।
संक्षिप्त सारांश
जन्मदिन का समारोह : एक भला आदमी विशाल दावत देने के बहाने अपना जन्मदिन मना रहा था। उसके सगे-संबंधी लोग दूर-दराज से आए थे। वे उन्हें बधाइयां देने और उपहार __ भेंट करने के लिए आए थे।
बिना बुलाए मेहमानः वह चोर एक बिना बुलाया मेहमान था जो उसके छत पर छिपा हुआ था। वह सजा पाने के भय से भयभीत था और उस भले आदमी के बीमार हो जाने की कामना कर रहा था। लेकिन वह भला आदमी उस चोर के प्रति निर्दयी नहीं था, इसके बावजूद उसने चोर को अपने हाथों से प्रेम के साथ खाना खिलाया और उसे उपहार तथा सिक्के भी दिए।
चोर की प्रतिक्रिया: उस भले आदमी के द्वारा उस चोर के प्रति दिखाए गए दयालुता ने चोर पर गहरा प्रभाव डाला। उसने अपने जीने के ढंग को ही बदल कर रख दिया। उसने कठोर मेहनत किया और ईमानदारी के साथ अपना आजीविका कमाने लग गया। इस दौरान वह चोर एक धनी आदमी बन गया।
दयालु चोर : हालांकि वह चोर अब एक जाना माना धनी व्यक्ति बन चुका था, फिर भी वह अन्य व्यक्ति के प्रति कभी कठोर नहीं होता था। वह भी उसी दयालुता का प्रदर्शन करता था जो उसे उस भले व्यक्ति से मिला था।
दूसरा जन्मदिन : कई सालों के बाद वही भला आदमी अपना एक और जन्मदिन मना रहा था। रि से उसके अतिथि लोग उसके लिए दूर देश से सुन्दर और आकर्शक उपहार लेकर आए थे। वह चोर भी एक अजनवी व्यक्ति की तरह बेसकीमती हीरों से भरा एक छोटा बक्सा लेकर आया था।
उस भले आदमी की जिज्ञासाः वह भला आदमी उस अनजान व्यक्ति का नाम देखकर की उत्सुक हुआ जिसने अत्यंत ही महंगा उपहार लाया था। उस चोर ने उस भले आदमी को उसके प्रति किए गए अच्छे वर्ताव का याद दिलाया। बड़ी मुश्किल से अंत में वह भला आदमी उसे याद कर सका।
भला आदमी हर्शित हुआ: वह भला आदमी उस चोर के अच्छे आचरण के वारे में जानकर कफी खुश हुआ। वह इस बात से और भी अधिक अनुग्रहित हुआ कि वह चोर अन्य जरूरतमंद लोगों के प्रति वैसा ही व्यवहार कर रहा है। हालांकि उस भले आदमी को हजारों बेटे और पोते थे लेकिन वह अजनबी व्यक्ति अपने भले व्यवहार के चलते उसका सबसे प्रिय बन गया।
एक सच्चा बेटा: उस चोर ने अपने-आप को सावित कर दिया कि वह एक सच्चा बेटा है क्योंकि उसने लोगों के बीच भलाई का संदेश दिया था। भलाई के अर्थ को समझ कर उसे दूसरों के प्रति वैसा ही दयालुता दिखाने के कारण वह चोर उस भले आदमी का सच्चा बेटा बन गया।

Passage-1: (Page 109)
There was a great feast being held in the house of a certain gentleman.
It was his birthday, and many of his relations had come from far and near to greet him and bring him gifts.
He entertained his guests.
It was his duty to look after them well.
In the evening he gave a great feast, and the gifts which the guests brought were placed in the centre of the hall so that all might see them.
एक भले आदमी के घर पर बहुत बड़े भोज का आयोजन किया गय था।
यह उनका जन्मदिन था और उनके अनेक रिस्तेदार दूर-दराज से उन्हें बधाइयां देने आए थे और साथ में उपहार भी लाए थे।
उसने अपने अतिथियों का भरपूर मनोरंजन किया।
यह उसका दायित्व बनता था कि वह उनका बेहतर सत्कार करे।
शाम के समय उसने एक बड़े प्रतिभोज का आयोजन किया था और उनके संबंधियों ने जो उसके लिए उपहार लाया था उसे एक बड़े से कमरे के मध्य में इस तरह से सजा कर रखा था कि सभी उसे आसानी से देख सकें।

When the feast was over and the guests had gone away, the man went towards the place where the gifts were kept, and began to put them away carefully.
As he did so, he suddenly caught sight of the shadow of a man’s head on the floor of the hall.
He knew that there must be someone hiding in the roof, and realized that there was a thief up there.
He called his servant and said,
“All the guests have not yet been fed.
Bring back the dishes.”
जब भोज समाप्त हुआ और उसके संबंधी अपने-अपने घरों को चले गए तब वह आदमी उस स्थान पर पहुंचा जहां पर उपहार रखे हुए थे, और उसने उन उपहारों को बड़ी सावधानी के साथ दूसरी जगह उठाकर रखने लगा।
जब वह ऐसा कर रहा था तो उसे अचानक से अपने घर की छत पर किस आदमी का साया दिखाई दिया।
वह तत्काल समझ गया कि निश्चिय ही छत पर कोई आदमी है जो वहां छिपा है और समझ गया कि ऊपर छिपा वह एक चोर है।
उसने अपने नौकरों को आवाज लगाया और कहा कि “सभी मेहमान अभी भोजन नहीं कर पाए हैं।
भोजन को वापस लाओ।”

The servant did as he was told.

Then he looked up at the man who was hiding in the roof and said,
“It is good of you to come to my house on my birthday,
I thought that all the guests had left.
But you have not been yet served.
Please come and share this humble meal with me.
The thief was very much afraid as he climbed down from his hiding place, but he was surprised to find himself treated as all the other guests.
His host served him with great courtesy and when he rose to leave, the old man gave him a gift and a bag of coins, and himself took him to the gate of the courtyard.

तब उसने उस आदमी की ओर देखा जो छत पर छिपा हुआ __ था और बोला, “यह तुम्हारे लिए बड़े भाग्य की बात है कि तुम मेरे घर मेरे जन्मदिन पर आए हो, मैं समझ रहा था कि सभी अतिथि चले गए। लेकिन तुम्हारी सेवा तो मैं अभी तक कर ही नहीं पाया था।
कृपा कर नीचे आओ और मेरे साथ प्रेम-पूर्वक भोजन ग्रहन करो।”
अपने छिपने के स्थान से नीचे उतरते समय चोर उस आदमी की आवाज को सुनकर की भयभीत हो गया, लेकिन यह देखकर कि जिस प्रकार से अन्य अतिथियों का स्वागत किया गया था, उसी प्रकार का स्वागत उसका भी किया जा रहा है, अत्यंत ही आश्चर्यचकित हुआ।
उस गृहस्वामी ने उसका बड़ा सम्मान किया और जब वह उसके घर से चलने को तैयार हुआ तो उस बुजुर्ग व्यक्ति ने उसे उपहार भेंट किया और सिक्कों से भरा एक थैला भी दिया।
और उसे अपने से उसे अपने बंगले के दरवाजे तक छोड़ने के लिए लेकर आया।

When the old man opened the box, he found inside it a precious pearl, worth a great deal of money.
He told his servant to bring the stranger immediately.

The old man replied, “It is a great joy to hear that I was able to do some good to you.
It is my duty to look after you.
I want you to have dinner with me but in order to invite you I must first know your name.”

The old gentleman remembered how he had found the thief hiding in his roof, and the stranger explained how the kindness shown to him on that occasion had changed his life.
Since that day he had given up his evil ways and tried to earn his living by honest work.
As years went by, he became very rich.
But that did not make him arrogant.
It was his duty, he felt, to show to others the same kindness that had been shown to him by the gentleman.
