Solution:

To represent the financial transactions, we use positive integers for gains and negative integers for losses or debts.

Loan = - ₹ 850, Profit = + ₹ 1200,

Loss = - ₹ 450

The sequence can be represented as:

(- 850) + (+ 1200) + (- 450)

= (-850 + 1200) - 450

= 350 - 450 = -100

∴ (- 8) × (- 7) = + 56

iii. Subtracting a negative number is the same as adding its positive value.

∴ 0 - (-14) = 0 + 14 = 14

iv. The quotient of a debt and a fortune is a debt.

∴ (-20) × 4 = -5
