Construct a rectangle one of whose sides is 4 cm and the diagonal is of length 8 cm. Class 6

Question 1.

Construct a rectangle one of whose sides is 4 cm and the diagonal is of length 8 cm. Class 6

Solution:

Step 1: Draw a line-segment AB of length 4 cm, using a ruler.

Step 2: At B, draw a line perpendicular to AB, i.e., make an angle XBA = 90°, using a protractor.

Step 3: Keeping the tip of compass at A and taking a distance of 8 cm between its two arms, draw a circle or an arc (part of a circle) to intersect ray BX at C. Join A and C.

Step 4: At A, draw a perpendicular AY to line-segment AB.

Step 5: On ray AY, mark a point D such that AD - BC, using a compass and join C and D. Then, ABCD is the required rectangle with AB = 4 cm and diagonal AC = 8 cm.

Note: There can be another method also for this construction.

Question 2.

Construct a rectangle one of whose sides is 3 cm and the diagonal is of length 7 cm. Class 6

Solution:

Note: Follow the same steps as in Question 3 above, except that take AB = 3 cm and AC = 7 cm.
