Draw a circle in which a chord of 6 cm length stands at a distance of 3 cm from the centre. Class 9

(Hint: Is it a circumcircle of a suitable triangle?)

Solution:

Steps of Construction:

i. Draw a line segment AB = 6 cm

ii. Draw perpendicular bisector of AB. Let M is midpoint of AB.

iii. On this perpendicular, mark point O such that OM = 3 cm

iv. Join OA and OB

v. With centre O and radius OA, draw a circle

vi. Extend OM to cut circle at C.

Triangle ABC is an isosceles triangle whose circumcentre is point O.
