What did you do to recreate this figure so that the four squares are placed symmetrically around the rectangle? Discuss with your classmates.

Discussion : First, a rectangle has been drawn on the middle of the page of the notebook and then both the opposite comers (vertices) of this rectangle are drawn to make two lines containing the two diagonals of the rectangle.

After this, with help of compass, four points are marked on these two lines which are equidistant from the point of intersection of these lines and in such a way that the points P, Q, R and S are lying in the exterior of the rectangle (see figure).

Then, taking each of these four points as a corner, a square is drawn, keeping the length of the side of the square same for each of these

points.
