Find the areas of the figures below by dividing them into rectangles and triangles. Class 6
Question 1.
Find the areas of the figures below by dividing them into rectangles and triangles. Class 6

Solution:
Split the figures, (a), (b), (c), (d) and (e) as shown.
Area of figure (a)
= ([latex]\frac{1}{2}[/latex] × 4 × 1 + 5 × 4 + [latex]\frac{1}{2}[/latex] × 4 × 1)
= 24 sq. units.
Area of figure (b)
= ([latex]\frac{1}{2}[/latex] × 4 × 3 + 5 × 4 + [latex]\frac{1}{2}[/latex] × 4 × 2)
= 30 sq. units.
Area of figure (c)
= ([latex]\frac{1}{2}[/latex] × 6 × 2 + 8 × 3 + [latex]\frac{1}{2}[/latex] × 3 × 2 + [latex]\frac{1}{2}[/latex] × 10 × 3) sq. units.
= (6 + 24 + 3 + 15) = 48 sq. units.
Area of figure (d)
= ([latex]\frac{1}{2}[/latex] × 2 × 1 + 4 × 3 + [latex]\frac{1}{2}[/latex] × 2 × 3)
= 16 sq. units.
Area of figure (e)
= ([latex]\frac{1}{2}[/latex] × 2 × 1 + 1 × 5 × 1 + [latex]\frac{1}{2}[/latex] × 2 × 3 + 2 × 2 + 1 × 2 × 1)
= (1 + [latex]\frac{5}{2}[/latex] + 3 + 4 + 1) = 11[latex]\frac{1}{2}[/latex] sq. units.
