Four flower beds having sides 2 m long and 1 m wide are dug at the four corners of a garden that is 15 m long and 12 m wide. How much area is now available for laying down a lawn? Class 6

Solution:

Area of the garden = 15 × 12 sq. m

= 180 sq. m.

Area of 1 flower bed = 2 × 1 sq. m = 2 sq. m

So, area of 4 flower beds = 4 × 2 = 8 sq. m.

Hence, area available for lawn

= (180 - 8) sq. m = 172 sq. m.


Question 2.

Shape A has an area of 18 square units and Shape B has an area of 20 square units. Shape A has a longer perimeter than Shape B. Draw two such shapes satisfying the given conditions. Class 6

Solution:

Shape A:

Area = 9 × 2 = 18 sq. units.

Its perimeter = 2(9 + 2) units = 22 units.

Shape B:

Area = 5 × 4 = 20 sq. units.

Its perimeter = 2(5 + 4) units = 18 units.

Here, shape A has longer perimeter than that of B (22 > 18).
