Geeta bought 2/5 metres of lace and Shamim bought 3/4 metres Class 6

Question 1.

Geeta bought [latex]\frac{2}{5}[/latex] metres of lace and Shamim bought [latex]\frac{3}{4}[/latex] metres of the same lace to put a complete border on a table cloth whose perimeter is 1 metre long. Find the total length of the lace they both have bought. Will the lace be sufficient to cover the whole border? Class 6

Solution:

Total length of the lace bought

= [latex]\left(\frac{2}{5}+\frac{3}{4}\right)[/latex] metres = [latex]\left(\frac{8}{20}+\frac{15}{20}\right)[/latex] metres

= [latex]\frac{23}{20}[/latex] metres = 1[latex]\frac{3}{20}[/latex] metres.

Yes, the lace will be sufficient to cover the whole border, because 1[latex]\frac{3}{20}[/latex] metres > 1 metre.

Question 2.

[latex]\frac{5}{8}[/latex] - [latex]\frac{3}{8}[/latex] Class 6

Solution:

[latex]\frac{2}{8}[/latex] = [latex]\frac{1}{4}[/latex]

Question 3.

[latex]\frac{7}{9}[/latex] - [latex]\frac{5}{9}[/latex] Class 6

Solution:

[latex]\frac{2}{9}[/latex].

Question 4.

[latex]\frac{10}{27}[/latex] - [latex]\frac{1}{27}[/latex] Class 6

Solution:

[latex]\frac{9}{27}[/latex] = [latex]\frac{1}{3}[/latex]
