How does the farthest distance between X and Y compare with the length of AC? BD? Class 6

Question 1.

How does the farthest distance between X and Y compare with the length of AC? BD? Class 6

Solution:

Farthest distance between X and Y will be equal to AC as well as BD.

Question 2.

What about constructing a rectangle that can be divided into two identical squares? Can you try it? Class 6

Solution:

Step 1 : Draw a line-segment AF of any length, say. 4 cm, using a ruler.

Step 2 : Using a protractor, make an angle FAX = 90°.

Step 3 : On ray AX, mark points B and C such that AB = AF and BC = AF (4 cm), using a ruler or compass.

Step 4 : Using a protractor, make an angle AFY = 90°

Step 5 On ray FY, mark point E and D such that FE = AF and ED = AF.

Step 6 : Join B and E as also C and D.

Then, ACDF is the required rectangle, which has been divided into two identical squares ABEF and BCDE (see figure).
