If the length of a rectangle is three more j than twice its width and its perimeter is 24 cm, what are the dimensions of the rectangle? Class 9
Solution:
Let the width of the rectangle be x cm.
∴ Length of the rectangle = (2x + 3) cm.
According to the given condition,
Perimeter of a rectangle = 24 cm
Perimeter = 2 (Length + Width)
∴ 24 = 2 [(2x + 3) + x]
∴ 24 = 2 (3x + 3)
∴ 24 = 6x + 6
∴ 6x = 18
∴ x = [latex]\frac{18}{6}[/latex]
∴ x = 3
Length of the rectangle = 2x + 3
= 2(3) + 3 = 9 cm.
∴ The dimensions of the rectangle are 3 cm and 9 cm.
