In each figure, find the missing value of either the length of a side or the area of a region. Class 6

Question 1.

In each figure, find the missing value of either the length of a side or the area of a region. Class 6

Solution:

(a) Area = (13 + 26 - 15) = 24 sq. cm.

(b) Area = 3 × 3 = 9 sq. cm.

(c) Area = 4 × 4 = 16 sq. cm.

(d) Breadth of rectangle of area 18 sq. cm.

= [latex]\frac{18}{5}[/latex] cm = 3.6 cm.

So, length of rectangle of area 38 sq. cm.

= (4 + 3.6) cm = 7.6 cm.

Hence, missing breadth of this rectangle

= 18 ÷ 7.6 = [latex]\frac{38}{7.6}[/latex] = [latex]\frac{380}{76}[/latex] = [latex]\frac{10}{2}[/latex] = 5 cm

Question 2.

Give the dimensions of a rectangle whose area is the sum of the areas of these two rectangles having measurements : 5 m × 10 m and 2 m × 7 m. Class 6

Solution:

Sum of the areas of the two rectangles

= 5m × 10m + 2m × 7m

= 50 sq. m + 14 sq. m = 64 sq. m.

So, dimensions of a rectangle with area 64 sq. m (in integral number of sides) can be 64 m × 1 m, 32 m × 2 m, 16 m × 4 m and 8 m × 8 m.
