Perimeter and Area Class 6 Long Question Answer

Perimeter and Area Class 6 Long Question Answer

Question 1.

A 3 m wide path runs outside and around a rectangular park of the length 125 m and breadth 65 m. Find the area of the path.

Solution:

Let ABCD be the rectangular park, and let PQRS be the external boundaries of the path.

We have : AB = 125 m

AD = 65 m

PQ = (125 + 3 + 3) m

= 131 m

and QR = (65 + 3 + 3) m

= 71 m.

Now, area of the path

= Area of PQRS - Area of ABCD

= (131 × 71 - 125 × 65) m²

= (9301 - 8125) m²

= 1176 m².

Question 2.

A picture is painted on a cardboard 8 cm long and 5 cm wide such that there is a margin of 1.5 cm along each of its sides. Find the total area of the margin.

Solution:

Let ABCD be the cardboard, and let PQRS be the painting without margin.

We have :

AB = 8 cm, BC = 5 cm

PQ = (8 - 1.5 - 1.5) cm = 5 cm

and PS = (5 - 1.5 - 1.5) cm = 2 cm.

Now, area of margin

= Area of ABCD - Area of PQRS

= (8 × 5 - 5 × 2) cm²

= (40 -10) cm² = 30 cm².
