Ruby has 3 times as many two-rupee coins as she has five rupee-coins. If she has a total Class 9
Question 1.
Ruby has 3 times as many two-rupee coins as she has five rupee-coins. If she has a total ₹ 88, how many coins does she have of each type? Class 9
Solution:
Let the number of five-rupee coins be x.
∴ Number of two-rupee coins = 3x
Now,
The value of each type of coins is given by,
x five-rupee coins = 5x
3x two-rupee coins = 2(3x) = 6x
According to the given condition,
Total value of the coins = ₹ 88
∴ 5x + 6x = 88
∴ ₹ 11x = 88
∴ x = [latex]\frac{88}{11}[/latex] = 8
Number of two-rupee coins = 3x = 3(8)
= 24
∴ Ruby has 8 five-rupees coins and 24 two-rupee coins.
