Solve the following problems : Jaya’s school is 7/10 km from her home. Class 6

Solve the following problems : Class 6

Question (a).

Jaya’s school is [latex]\frac{7}{10}[/latex] km from her home. She takes an auto for [latex]\frac{1}{2}[/latex] km from her home daily, and then walks the remaining distance to reach her school. How much does she walk daily to reach the school?

Solution:

Distance by walking

= [latex]\frac{7}{10}[/latex] km - [latex]\frac{1}{2}[/latex] km

= [latex]\left(\frac{7}{10}-\frac{1 \times 5}{2 \times 5}\right)[/latex] km.

= [latex]\left(\frac{7}{10}-\frac{5}{10}\right)[/latex] km = [latex]\frac{2}{10}[/latex] km = [latex]\frac{1}{5}[/latex] km.

Question (b).

Jeevika takes [latex]\frac{10}{3}[/latex] minutes to take a complete round of the park and her friend Namit takes [latex]\frac{13}{4}[/latex] minutes to do the same. Who takes less time and by how much?

Solution:

$\frac{10}{3}=\frac{10 \times 4}{3 \times 4}=\frac{40}{12}$ minutes and $\frac{13}{4}=\frac{13 \times 3}{4 \times 3}=\frac{39}{12}$ minutes.

As $\frac{39}{12}<\frac{40}{12}$, so Namit takes less time.

This time $=\left(\frac{40}{12}-\frac{39}{12}\right)=\frac{1}{12}$ minutes.
