(а) Find the missing measurements.

(b) Find out the area of his house. What are the dimensions of all the different rooms in Sharan’s house? Compare the areas and perimeters of Sharan’s house and Charan’s house.

Solution:

(a) Breadth of the house is (15 + 10)

= 25 ft.

Area of small bedroom = 120 sq. ft.

Utility area = 10 ft × 7 ft = 70 sq. ft.

Toilet = 5 ft × 10 ft = 50 sq. ft.

Hall = 23 ft × 15 ft = 345 sq. ft.

Entrance = 15 ft × 7 ft = 105 sq. ft.

(b) Area of this house = 42 ft ×25 ft.

= 1050 sq. ft.

In Sharan’s house, dimensions of master bedroom are 12 ft × 15 ft, that of small bedroom are 12 ft × 10 ft and that of hall are 23 ft × 15 ft.

Area of the two houses are the same i.e., 1050 sq. ft.

Perimeter of Sharan’s house

= 2(42 + 25) ft = 2 × 67 = 134 ft.

Perimeter of Charan’s house

= 2(35 + 30) ft = 2 × 65 = 130 ft.

Thus, perimeter of Sharan’s house is greater than the perimeter of Charan’s house by 4 ft.
