What happens to the perimeter of a square if we double its side? Class 9

Answer.
Consider a square with side 2 units.
Its perimeter is 4 × 2 = 8 units.
Now consider a square with side 4 units. Its perimeter is 4 × 4 = 16 units.
We observe that when the side is doubled, the perimeter doubles too.
In general, for a square with side a units, the perimeter is 4a units. Therefore:
$\frac{\text { Perimeter }}{\text { Side }}=\frac{4 a}{a}=4$
So, the ratio of perimeter to side is 4 : 1 for all squares, regardless of their size. As the side gets larger or smaller, this ratio remains fixed at 4 : 1.
- For equilateral triangles, the ratio of perimeter to the side is 3 : 1.
As the side of the equilateral triangle gets larger (or smaller), the ratio of perimeter to side stays fixed
