→ Tourism is travel undertaken for pleasure or business; it is also the theory and practice of touring, the business of attracting, accommodating, and entertaining tourists, and the business of operating tours.

→ The cultural traditions of Rajasthan have gained a high status in tourism.

→There are three main tourism centers in India- Kashmir, Goa and Rajasthan.

→ The Rajasthan government has declared tourism as an industry.

→ Tourism can become the backbone of economy of the state.

→ In tourism, foreign exchange earnings, means of employment, art and cultural development, increase in transport facilities etc. are the benefits derived.

→ 10 divisional circuits have been formed from the point of view of tourism in Rajasthan.

→ Distinct diversity is found in these areas, like some parts are hilly, while some others are desert.

→ Rajasthan holds a special place not only on Indian map, but also on the global tourism map.

→ There is a treasure of culturally and historically prosperous monuments everywhere in Rajasthan.

→ Important tourist places of Rajasthan include forts and palaces, art and cultural points, science and architecture, wildlife sanctuaries, national parks, etc.

→ Apart from this, in context to geographical significance, Ana Sagar, Foy Sagar, Pushkar Lake, Galta Ji in Jaipur, Ummed Sagar in Jodhpur, Nakki Lake in Mount Abu, Jaisamand, Udai Sagar, Fateh Sagar and Pichola lake in Udaipur are liked by the tourists.

Tourism is facing the following problems

  • Lack of adequate housing facilities.
  • Problem of marketing, literature, guides and public contacts.
  • Inadequate transport and communication facilities.
  • Problem of maintenance of tourist points.
  • Lack of marketing centers.

→ Apart from the above mentioned problems, the tourists should be provided sufficient and timely help from police, whenever needed. They should be treated humbly and respectfully.

→ To make Rajasthan famous at international level, a limited liability company named Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation Limited (RTDC) was incorporated on April 1st, 1979.

→ Those tourist spots that are not known to the tourists are being tried to be made to be known to them by performing developmental works and their publicity.

→ In March 1989, the state government declared tourism as an industry. Presently, the state government has enhanced the percentage of grants from 15% to 20% to encourage private investors in the state.

→ In the budget of 2010-11, a programme had been formed to celebrate the Desert Safari, and International Kite and Balloon festival, in order to promote tourism.

→ In 2011-12, Jantar Mantar has been included in the World Heritage List by the UNESCO. The government will spend money on its maintenance.

→ In 2012-13, stress was paid upon the development of heritage walk in the cities and development of water facilities at religious places.

→ The tourism policy of 2012-13 was extended till 31st March 2014.

→ State government will annually celebrate the “Rajasthan Day” in the form of a festival.

→ New investment proposals shall be passed upon issuance of New tourism Unit Policy, 2015.

→ It is remarkable, that until 2015, under Tourism Unit Policy of 2007, about 1500 projects of tourist units have been approved, by which an investment of approximately 12500 crore rupees has been received in the state.
