Activity 10.1 Let us explore

Aim: To show that sound is produced due to vibrations of objects.

Procedure:

  1. Take a cardboard box with one side open and a rubber band. Stretch the rubber band and wait till it stops vibrating.
  2. Change the tension in rubber band by stretching and loosening it and pluck it to hear any change in sound.
  3. As long as the rubber band is stretched and vibrating sound is produced. Sound stops when vibrations stop. produces sound

Conclusion: Sound is produced by vibrations of an object. When vibrations stop, sound also stops.
