Aim: To show that sound is produced due to vibrations using a tuning fork.
- Strike the prongs of tuning fork against the rubber pad and bring it close to ear in different orientations to hear sound.
- Touch the water surface with vibrating prongs of tuning fork to see waves forming on water surface. When vibrating tuning fork is brought near the ear, sound is heard. When vibrating prongs touch the water surface, waves are formed.


Observation:
- Striking the prong against a rubber pad and bringing it near the ear produces a sound.
- When a vibrating prong touches a water surface, waves form on the water, confirming that the prongs are vibrating.
- Sound is heard regardless of the orientation of the tuning fork near the ear, indicating that sound propagates in multiple directions from a source.
Conclusion: Sound is produced by vibrations of an object. The tuning fork produces sound only when its prongs vibrate. Thus, vibrations are necessary for the production of sound.
