Activity 11.6 Let us investigate
Aim: To study the role of pollination (self and cross- pollination) in fruit formation by observing different conditions or treatments in flowers.
Observation:
The uncovered flower develops fruit normally, while covered flowers show limited or no fruit formation due to the lack of pollination, and flowers from which stamens were removed do not form fruits showing the importance of stamens and pollination.

Conclusion:
Pollination (transfer of pollen from anther to stigma) is essential for fruit and seed formation. Without pollen, the flower cannot be fertilised and no fruit develops. Pea plants are primarily self-pollinating.
