Activity 12.4 Let us explore
Aim: To observe different shapes of bacteria and cyanobacteria and compare them with the fig (Members of the kingdom).

Observations: Different shapes of bacteria are seen, such as circular (cocci), rod-shaped (bacilli), spiral (spirilla), comma-shaped (vibrio).
Conclusion: Bacteria and Cyanobacteria Shape Rod, spherical, or spiral Filamentous, spherical, or rod shaped Colour Colourless/pale - no photosynthetic pigment visible Blue-green due to phycocyanin and chlorophyll pigments Presence of nucleus Absent - prokaryote, no membrane-bound nucleus Absent - prokaryote, no membrane-bound nucleus Mode of nutrition Heterotrophic (most); some autotrophic Autotrophic - perform photosynthesis Where commonly found Soil, water, air, inside living organisms, extreme environments Aquatic environments, moist soil, on rocks, hot springs.
