Activity 6.6 Let us verify

Aim: To verify that action and reaction forces are equal in magnitude and opposite in direction.

Procedure: Place two identical spring balances connected to each other by their hooks in horizontal position on a table. Fix the free end of one spring balance to an immovable wall and pull the free end of other spring balance with hand multiple times by changing the magnitude of forces applied.

Observation: When two spring balances are connected and pulled in opposite direction, both spring balances shows the equal readings every time, even when the applied forces changed.

Conclusion: Forces applied by them on each other in the opposite direction are equal in magnitude.
