Activity 6.5 Let us explore

Aim: To see two objects exert opposite force on each other.

Procedure: A girl sits on chair with legs raised above the floor. Push the table by applying a force in forward direction with both the hands. Now pull the table by applying a force in reverse direction with both the hands.

Observation: When force is applied on the table, table applies a force on girl in the opposite direction.

A girl is sitting on bicycle and has to move forward without pedalling. She pushes the ground in backward direction with feet and bicycle moves forward.

Conclusion: Feet apply force on the ground and ground applies force on girl in the opposite direction. This moves the bicycle forward. The force applied by ground is the force of friction which in this case helps to move rather than oppose the motion.
