Activity 9.1 To verify that mass is conserved during a physical change. Class 9

Activity 9.1

Aim: To verify that mass is conserved during a physical change (dissolving salt in water).

Procedure: Pour 100 ml water in a beaker. Add a spatula full of common salt to the water contained in beaker and measure the weight on the weighing balance. Mass of solution is equal to the sum of mass of water and mass of salt.

Observation: The mass of the solution after dissolving the salt remains equal to the total mass of salt and water taken initially.

Conclusion: There is no change in the mass during the formation of solution which is a physical change.
