Answer:
- Horizontal motion at constant velocity: No change in potential energy. U = mgh depends only on height h. Horizontal motion does not change h, so U remains constant.
- Vertical motion (raised upward): Yes, potential energy increases. As h increases, U = mgh increases proportionally. The work done against gravity gets stored as gravitational potential energy.
