Seeds allow plants to survive unfavourable conditions (drought, cold) in a dormant state and germinate when conditions improve. Fruits help in dispersal of seeds to new locations - far from the parent plant. This is done by different agents such as insects, birds, animals, wind, and water. Fruits make seed dispersal efficient and allow plants to colonise new and varied environments.
