(i) At which of the given times is your shadow the shortest?
(ii) Why do you think this happens?
Answer:
(i) My shadow is shortest at 12.00 noon when the Sun is directly overhead.
(ii) This is because:
- The Sun's rays are falling down almost vertically on your overhead, the angle at which the light hits the ground is steep. So, the shadow is at its shortest.
- In the morning (9 a.m.) and afternoon (4 pm), the Sun's rays strike your body at a more oblique angle, which causes your shadow longer.
