Select a few stories from the Pahchatantra and discuss how their message is still valid today. Do you know of any similar stories from your region? Class 6

Answer:

First story is from Ramayana.

In the Ramayana, Rama, with the help of his brother Lakshmana and of Hanuman, defeats the demon king Ravana, who had kidnapped his wife Sita.

If any one or even supreme personality kidnapps or does any other crime, that will be punished as per law in the court.

  1. ‘Do it today not leave it for tomorrow’, said Ravana to Lakshmana at the time of his death.

Today: Usually the successful student believes in the proverb that study today and not leave it for tomorrow.

  1. Rama fulfilled the words of his father and accepted 14 years of exile. The wife of the late Prime Minister Shree Lai Bahadur Shastri, paid loan of a car taken by Shastriji.
  2. Rama ate berries (ber) from a Bhilni (Sabri) who belonged to a low class community. Today we don’t have any bias regarding caste, creed and religion while using public services.

The second story is from Mahabharata.

In the Mahabharata, the Pandavas, with Krishna’s help, fought against their own cousins, the Kauravas, to recover their kingdom.

Mahabharata Today: Today is the time of dialogue and law. Now, there is no dynasty system. The ruler is elected by the people for certain period, not forever.

A cow was stuck between the two branches of a tree. She was unable to come out as her head was stuck between two branches of tree. The cow was mooing. A person brought woodcutter. He cut one of the branches very carefully without making any harm to cow. Cow was saved and she became free.
