Economic and Non-Economic Activities

  2. Non-economic activities are done out of feelings of gratitude, love, care, and respect. Examples include family chores, home renovations, and caregiving for grandparents.

Non-Economic Activities and Community Participation

  1. Non-economic activities, such as seva (selfless service) in temples, gurudwaras, mosques, and churches, generate value and contribute to society.
  2. These practices foster satisfaction, gratitude, and contribute to society without expecting anything in return.
  3. The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is a collective effort to keep surroundings clean, leading to a clean home, neighbourhood, society, and nation.
  4. The Van Mahotsav festival in India promotes awareness about the value of trees and their conservation, involving community members in tree plantation drives.


IMPORTANT TERMS AND DEFINITIONS


1. Economic Activities: Those activities that involve money or are performed in exchange for money or money's worth for the parties involved. Examples include selling goods, providing services, and earning a salary.

2. Non-Economic Activities: Those activities that do not generate income or wealth but are done out of feelings like gratitude, love, care and respect. For example, parents cooking food without any consideration.

3. Market: A place where people engage in the exchange of goods and services. People may exchange goods and services for other goods but in most markets these are exchanged for money.

4. Fee: A payment made to a person or organization in exchange for professional advice or services, such as payments made to doctors or lawyers.

5. Money’s Worth: The monetary value that a person places on an object based on the benefit they derive from it.

6. Salary: A fixed regular payment generally paid monthly by an employer to an employee.

7. Wage: A payment made by the employer to the worker for a specific period of time.

8. Payment in kind: A non-cash payment that is received for the work performed.

9. Seva: Selfless service, often seen in community practices such as langars (community kitchens) in gurudwaras, where food is served for free to all visitors.

10. Value of Work: The significance and impact of work in our lives, emphasizing that work should be approached with dedication and reverence.

11. Voluntary Group: A community organization where individuals come together to contribute their time and skills for a common purpose, often without monetary compensation.
