Why is it 5:30 pm in India when it is 12 pm or noon in London?

London is located at approximately 0°W longitude. India is located at approximately 82°E longitude. Each 15° of longitude is equal to 1 hour, so 82° ÷ 15° = 5.467 ~ 5.5 hours. That is why India follows Indian Standard Time (IST), which is 5 hours and 30 minutes ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT). London is in the GMT zone, so when it is noon in London (GMT), it is 5:30 pm in India (IST).
