Question 1.

Express the following fractions as percentages. Class 8

(ii) [latex]\frac{7}{14}[/latex]

(iii) [latex]\frac{9}{20}[/latex]

(iv) [latex]\frac{72}{150}[/latex]

(v) [latex]\frac{1}{3}[/latex]

Solution:

[latex]\frac{3}{5}[/latex] = [latex]\frac{x}{100}[/latex]. So, x = [latex]\frac{3 \times 100}{5}[/latex] = 60

So, [latex]\frac{3}{5}[/latex] = 60%.

(ii) [latex]\frac{7}{14}[/latex] = [latex]\frac{x}{100}[/latex]. So, x = [latex]\frac{7 \times 100}{14}[/latex] = 50

So, [latex]\frac{7}{14}[/latex] = 50%.

(iii) [latex]\frac{9}{20}[/latex] = [latex]\frac{x}{100}[/latex]. So, x = [latex]\frac{9 \times 100}{20}[/latex] = 45

So, [latex]\frac{9}{20}[/latex] = 45%.

(iv) [latex]\frac{72}{150}[/latex] = [latex]\frac{x}{100}[/latex], So, x = [latex]\frac{72 \times 100}{150}[/latex] = 48

So, [latex]\frac{72}{150}[/latex] = 48%.

(v) [latex]\frac{1}{3}[/latex] = [latex]\frac{x}{100}[/latex]. So, x = [latex]\frac{100}{3}[/latex] = 33[latex]\frac{1}{3}[/latex]

So, [latex]\frac{1}{3}[/latex] = 33[latex]\frac{1}{3}[/latex]%.

(vi) [latex]\frac{5}{11}[/latex] = [latex]\frac{x}{100}[/latex]

So, x = [latex]\frac{5 \times 100}{11}[/latex] = [latex]\frac{500}{11}[/latex] = 45[latex]\frac{5}{100}[/latex]

So, [latex]\frac{5}{11}[/latex] = 45[latex]\frac{5}{11}[/latex]%.


Question 2.

Nandini has 25 marbles, of which 15 are white. What percentage of her marbles are white? Class 8

(i) 10%

(ii) 15%

(iii) 25%

(iv) 60%

(v) 40%

(vi) None of these

Solution:

Required percentage

= [latex]\frac{15}{25}[/latex] = [latex]\frac{15 \times 4}{25 \times 4}[/latex] = [latex]\frac{60}{100}[/latex]% = 60%

So, answer is (iv).
