Power Play Class 8 Assertion and Reasoning Questions

In each of the following questions, two statements have been given. One has been labelled as Assertion (A) and the other has been labelled as Reason (R). You have to choose the correct option, from the given four options. Class 8

(a) Both the statements (A) and (R) are correct and (R) is the correct explanation of (A).

(b) Both the statements (A) and (R) are correct but (R) is not the correct explanation of (A).

(c) (A) is correct but (R) is not correct.

(d) (R) is correct but (A) is not correct.

1. (A) : Value of 53 is 15.

(R) : 53 is the same as 5 ×5 × 5.

Answer:

(d) (R) is correct but (A) is not correct.

2. (A) : [latex]-\left(\frac{-2}{3}\right)^3[/latex] is not equal to [latex]\frac{-8}{27}[/latex]

(R) :[latex]\left(\frac{-2}{3}\right)^3=\left(\frac{-2}{3}\right) \times\left(\frac{-2}{3}\right) \times\left(\frac{-2}{3}\right)=\frac{-8}{27}[/latex]

Answer:

(a) Both the statements (A) and (R) are correct and (R) is the correct explanation of (A).

3. (A) : (-9)5 × (-9)3 is not equal to (9)8.

(R) : (-9)5 × (-9)3 = (-9)5+3 = (-9)8

Answer:

(d) (R) is correct but (A) is not correct.

4. (A): On simplification of [latex]\frac{8^7 \times x^{10} y^8 z^{12}}{8^5 \times x^8 y^4 z^{12}}[/latex] the result is 64x2y2

(R): [latex]\frac{8^7}{8^5}[/latex] = 87-5 = 82 = 64, [latex\frac{x^{10}}{x^8}latex] = x10-8 = x2, [latex]\frac{y^8}{y^4}[/latex] = y2 = y4

and [latex]\frac{z^{12}}{z^{12}}[/latex] = z12-12 - z0 = 0.

Answer:

(c) (A) is correct but (R) is not correct.

5. (A) : Value of 10 + 20 + 30 = 3.

(R) : a0 is always equal to 1.

Answer:

(a) Both the statements (A) and (R) are correct and (R) is the correct explanation of (A).
