Question 1.
The RMS Titanic ship carried about 2500 passengers. Can the population of Mumbai fit into 5000 such ships? Class 7

Solution:
2500 × 5000 = 1,25,00,000.
As per table on Census 2011, Mumbai population is 1,24,42,373. So, Mumbai population could have been fit in 2011.
(a) How far would she have travelled in a year?
Solution:
100 × 365 = 36500 km.
(b) How far would she have travelled in 10 years? ,
Solution:
36500 × 10 = 365000 km.
Question 2.
Find out if you can reach the Sun in a lifetime, if you travel 1000 kilometers every day. (You had written down the distance between the Earth and the Sun in a previous exercise.) Class 7
Solution:
Distance travel in one year = 365 × 1000 = 365000 km.
Distance of Sun from Earth = 2100 × 70000 km.
So, years required to cover this distance = [latex]\frac{2100 \times 70000}{365000}[/latex] = [latex]\frac{2100 \times 14}{73}[/latex]
= More than 402 years.
So, it is not possible to reach the Sun in our lifetime.
