Answer:

(a) Pressure in Boat A:

Base area of boat A = 7 m2

Total weight = Number of persons × Weight per person

= 5 × 700 - N = 3500 N

= Pressure = Force /Area

= 3500 N / 7m2

= 500 N /m2 (Pa)

(b) Pressure in Boat B:

Total weight = Number of persons x Weight per person

= 3 x 700 N = 2100 N

Pressure = Force/Area

= 2100 N / 3.5 m2

= 600 N /m2 (Pa)

Conclusion: Boat B experiences more pressure on its base. The difference in pressure is 600 Pa - 500 Pa = 100 Pa
