mediumAs a class activity, form groups of four or five students and observe the school’s surroundings. What kind of landscape do you see? Will the landscape change a few kilometres away? Or within some 50 kilometres? Compare with other groups.
My school is situated in the plains. No, when I go further, I find the Ganga river plains, which are fertile, and crops are grown in the area. When I go 50 km further, the landscape changes to a hilly area or the foot of the Himalayan Mountains.
In the same groups, discuss a journey that any of you has made through a region of India. List the different landscapes seen on the way. Compare with other groups.
Visit from Delhi to Shimla.
Starting from Delhi, the landscape is plain with lots of buildings, roads, and busy streets. As I leave Delhi and head towards places like Haryana, I see open fields and farmland as the Plain of the Yamuna River has fertile soil. As I get closer to the foothills of the Himalayas, I see small hills and valleys, and the roads start to wind up and down. When I get even closer to Shimla, the landscape changes to beautiful mountains. I see tall, green hills and some snow-capped peaks.
