1. Rivers such as Ganga and Indus served as natural highways. These rivers gave easy water routes for goods to the traders.
2. The longest Indo-gangetic plain is flat to transport good very easily.
3. Khyber and Bolan passes act as natural passes, through which exchange of goods allowed traders with Central Asia.
4. India has long coastline, that help traders to trade through Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal to other countries of the world.
5. Western Ghats passes allowed traders to cross the hills and reach the sea.

During ancient times, traders used several modes of transport on these roads. They travelled by foot, using pack animals like horses and donkeys to carry goods. Goods were transported by bullock carts were drawn by oxen, horse carts were drawn by horse. Elephants and camels also carry heavy goods. Boats were used on rivers and ships were used on seas for transporting larger quantities of items.
