Answer:

One kingdom from the post-Maurya era that I find particularly interesting is the Satavahana dynasty. The Satavahanas ruled a significant part of the Deccan region, which includes present-day Andhra Pradesh,Telangana, and Maharashtra, from around the 2nd century BCE.

I chose this kingdom because of its remarkable contributions to trade, culture, and art during a time of great change in India. The Satavahanas are often referred to as 'Andhras' and were known for their strong trade networks, which connected them to both internal and external markets. They played a crucial role in the exchange of goods, ideas, and culture, contributing to the flourishing of trade activities during the Age of Reorganisation. Their capital cities, such as Amravatī and Pratishthana, became bustling centers of commerce and culture.

Artistically, the Satavahanas are renowned for their unique style of sculpture and architecture, particularly the famous Amravatī Stapa. This stapa is an important Buddhist monument that showcases intricate carvings and reliefs, reflecting the rich cultural and religious life of the time. The Satavahana period also saw the growth of Sanskrit literature, which laid the foundation for future literary works in India.

In the Satavahana tradition, princes were often named after their mothers. Thus Gautamiputra Satakarni was named after his mother, Gautamī Balashri. Queens donated land, cows, horses, elephants, silver coins and other items to priests, guests, workers, scholars and monks. They also performed several Vedic rituals including the Ashvamedha Yajna.
