A dart-throwing competition was organised in a school. The number of throws participants took to hit the bull’s eye (the centre circle) is given in the table below. Describe the data using its minimum, maximum, mean and median. Class 8

Solution:

In this question, number of students should be considered as the number of successes in hitting the target.

= [latex]\frac{473}{55}[/latex] = [latex]\frac{43}{5}[/latex] = 8.6.

Median = [latex]\left(\frac{55+1}{2}\right)[/latex]th success.

= 28th success

For this, data to be arranged in ascending order as shown below :

So, median is corresponding to cumulative frequency 40 as it-is included in 22nd to 40 successes.
