A taxi driver charges a fixed fee of ₹ 800 per day plus ₹ 20 for each kilometer. Class 7

Question 1.

A taxi driver charges a fixed fee of ₹ 800 per day plus ₹ 20 for each kilometer traveled. If the total cost for a taxi ride is ₹ 2200, determine the number of kilometres travelled.

Solution:

Let number of kilometres be x.

So, ₹ 20 × x + ₹ 800 = ₹ 2200

or 20x = 2200 - 800 = 1400

So, x = [latex]\frac {1400}{20}[/latex] = 70 km.

Question 2.

The sum of two numbers is 76. One number is three times the other number. What are the numbers? Class 7

Solution:

Let number be x and 76 - x.

Now, 76 - x = 3x

or 4x = 76 or x = [latex]\frac {76}{4}[/latex] = 19.

So, the numbers are 19 and 57.
