Rent for the dosa cart is ₹ 5000 per day.

The cost of making one dosa (including all the ingredients and fuel) is ₹ 10.

(i) If I can sell 100 dosas a day, what should be the selling price of my dosa to make a profit of ₹ 2000?

(ii) If my customers are willing to pay only ₹ 50 for a dosa, how many dosas should I aim to sell in a day to make a profit of ₹ 2000?

Solution:

(i) Cost of 100 dosas per day

= ₹ 5000 + 100 × ₹ 10

= ₹ 6000

So, for a profit of ₹ 2000, selling price of 100 dosas should be ₹ 6000 + ₹ 2000 = ₹ 8000.

Thus, S.P. of one dosa = [latex]\frac{₹ 8000}{100}[/latex] = ₹ 80.

(ii) Let he should sell x dosas in a day for a profit of ₹ 2000.

So, C.P. = ₹ 5000 + x × ₹ 10

= ₹ (5000 + 10x)

S.P. = x × ₹ 50 = ₹ 50x

So, ₹ 50x - ₹ (5000 + 10x) = ₹ 2000

or 50x - 5000 - 10x = 2000

or 40x = 2000 + 5000

or 40x = 7000

i. e., x = [latex]\frac{7000}{40}[/latex] = 175.

So, he must sell 175. dosas a day.
