There are some children and donkeys on a beach. Together they have 28 heads and 80 feet. How many donkeys are there? How many children are there? Class 7

Solution:

Let number of children be x. So, number of donkeys = 28 - x.

So, total number of feet

= 2 × x + 4x (28 - x)

= 2x + 112 - 4x

= 112 - 2x

So, as per given condition,

112 - 2x = 80

or 2x = 112 - 80

or 2x = 32

or x = 16

So, number of children = 16

and number of donkeys = 28 - 16 = 12.
